You misunderstand me. I think Kessel is great and will get a solid return. However, most people forget to factor what the other team is doing/building/their plan when they make trades up.
Sure Kessel is worth #11 but maybe Florida really wants a first round pick in THIS draft and won't do the deal unless one is coming back.
Essentially it's Kessel for the #11 and then #24 for something else from Florida. Maybe the first next year and a 2nd this year. I don't know exactly but it would be a hard sell I think to give up the #11 in "a deep draft". - Aaron_85
I forget nothing, Jon Snow.
Florida has legit 1-2 centers, Ekblad looks like a stud on D, plus a few others and Luongo holding down the fort between the pipes.
They are ready to contend, IMO.
A fellow named dwoo, who hasn't posted in a while but claimed insider knowledge, said the framework of a trade would be Kessel and Polak for the #11, Gudbranson, Trochek and Boyes for cap purposes.
I happen to love that trade, so I'm holding him to it!
...and i doubt T.O. is interested in dealing away 1st round picks, theyre trying to get their hands on as many as they possibly can, thats why i wouldnt even be surprised if JVR is moved... - user1
There is WAY too much value being placed on these first rounders, especially out of the top 5.
30-35 goal guys are worth gold. That is why it is stupid to sell low after a year where the team gave up.
Moving young established assets like JVR for a pimply faced 18 year old or two does not make any sense, unless it's a can't miss like the top 5 picks are supposed to be this year.

I'm okay with that trade as well.
When I think about it, they really could do 2 deals but at the same time. So it would be the one above and then #24 for something and a 2nd rounder.

They're on the right track for sure, but maybe we should wait until they actually make the playoffs before considering them contenders?
Maybe?
In a couple of years they should be a force, even without Kessel.
Can't see them giving away what will probably be their best pick in a while AND Gudbranson for Kessel....
They probably dont HAVE to take back a bad contract/retain salary, but i think the return would be higher if they did, like the Yandle deal. Retaining salary wouldn't be great because of the length of his deal, but taking a bad contract may make a team more likely to part with better pieces (1st rounders and good prospects) if they're in a stage where they think they can make a cup run. Taking a bad contract with 2-3 years left on it wouldn't hurt the leafs cause ideally it would be done by the time they start making progress. - 13sundin13
Willingness to take salary back opens up more opportunities for trade partners.

Strome - TheThrill
personally im pushing for strome or marner
but hanifin and rielly together in the future doenst sound too shabby either
i just feel we have a decent amount of D prospects, enough that we should be able to improve on the D end in time, where up front we dont have a ton of top 6 talent in the works...nylander and brown are both somewhat small so a bigger strome doesnt sound too shabby at all
