if you score 30 goals in a season but are on the ice for 60, what good is that?

Now he didnt do himself any favors the last 40 games of the season..but he was hardly the only one..but I get he is the 8 million dollar top player on the team

Players are different in the playoffs. I bet if you watch Kane in the regular season he back checks as much as kessel does.

In the series versus Boston, kessel back checked like crazy. Playoffs can change a player to do things they don't normally do.

Kane also said kessel is the most skilled player he's ever seen. Argument over.

Kane does have a lot of drive in the season, simply watch him to see. the whole blackhawks team does, that's what a winning team does.

No one questions his offensive ability.

His play away from the puck and effort level are questionable though.

And yes, he's an awkward weirdo.

Don't see how he's "very very underrated" either.

It's frustrating because he has the size, good skater but will not battle for the puck. He has great hands in close and does stand in front. You look at him and think, there is so much more there.

kessel is not underrated. he just plays too one dimensional. it's like PK subban, he can win the norris, lead the D in scoring, but when it comes to winning games for say Team Canada, he won't crack the top 6 when you have 2 way guys like weber, doughty, pietrangelo, keith, etc.

kessel only does one thing - get points. and that one thing comes at a serious cost to your team (defense). I'd gladly take a player who got 60pts and plays a hard 2 way game than a floater who gets 80.

is it kessel's fault? no. he in fact has overacheived in my opinion since we got him for offense and he sure as hell delivered. So this isn't me hating him. But again, if you can't see why he's not exactly the best fit with that deal and his severely one dimensional game, you aren't watching much hockey.
