Leafs trying to rebuild...... How does getting older or at least not younger help them?
- burn

Jordan Staal is younger than Kessel.

I don't think the Leafs need to do a complete roster purge to rebuild the team.

I like to think that you guys have one if those tornado sirens that sounds when we mention your team or city. Or certain posters.

I turned on Iggy's signal.

He would be on his way.

Reinhart is awful.
- blacksheep1

i didnt really focus on the isles, again i am pretty sure kessel will be traded out west.

but you are right it will probably be dal colle + nelson or something like that if it were to happen. my money is still on st.louis

fabbri + berglund + pick/prospect for kessel.

MUCH fairer than the crap people have been posting. the day kessel gets traded with trochek being the best piece coming back is the day i change my username to sensnuckshavecups

It was a good fictional deal, but I don't believe the Islanders will be trading those two prospects any time soon.
- BetterCallSaul

I think Reinhart has a chance to get dealt, bc of the depth at D but not sure....

Isles have cap space & players & specs to find a replacement. And trust me, I don't play the homer card.... I never wanted Bailey drafted
- Ur Not Me

Personally you'd have one of the best forward groups with...

Lee JT Kessel
Nelson Strome KO
Kulemin Neilsen Grabovski
Martin Cizikas Clutterbuck

Very good.

eric would be the more likely guy based on salary, but how does getting 3 years older help us? also Staal put up LESS than Kessel last year as poopty as kessel was under horacek
- GardinerExpress

Eric is a good leader and a centre. If it were Bozak and Kessel for both Staals ++ then the Leafs would be in pretty good shape.

just doesnt make sense to get a big ticket guy that will be 31 when we are rebuilding.
in 3-4 years when we are competitive he will be 35

that would be a filthy lineup. JT-Kessel would be a 1-2 punch that would rival getzlaf-perry, toews-hossa, benn-seguin etc

Sooo true.
the issue would be resigning the kids & JT which are more important than 1 player.
with most of the core intact & signed, the remaining kids & JT would be left to sign.
Unless we all know the cap is increasing dramatically, isles cant afford to take that risk, now....

Realistically I think they need another top pairing defenceman, they have good prospects to fill out 3-7. They need one of their goalies to wake up and act like a real goaltender, or they need two new goalies. It gets a little dicey at forward. Nylander is the only prospect with legit top line potential in my opinion. Some real good prospects, but nothing stellar. Then you need to factor in guys like JVR and Kadri. Do they stay or go?

Honestly, after watching these playoffs Mtl needs kessel.

Probably never trade him to a rival but we did get him from Boston by overpaying.

I know they would rather have JVR but they need someone to just snipe goals, and don't need defence from him. They have imo the beat goalie in the league keeping them in games anyways.

Don't know what they would/could part with for equal value I just think they are a team that needs him the most.

lets see 4th overall +24th overall this year. lets say Strome and Carlo.
next year likely top 10. lets say Logan Brown

2019-2020 season, Nylander is 23,C. Brown 23, Strome 22, L. Brown 21, JVR 27, plus whatever we get for Kessel

thats a good start up front

Conversation starts with Galchenyuk. Probably ends there too from Montreal's perspective.
