Thanks Paul. Most nights, I put the NHL channel, and other sports channels on mute. The commentary has leaned towards a more colorful commentary rather than something of content, and relevance. When you have to focus on comedy or crazy adjectives, then you will start to lose my interest. But, that is what the television management thinks that the American public wants; especially the fans new to the sport, and a much younger audience. However, I do like "Doc" out of all the announcers.
The last few games both teams have been quite chippy in their play. I had thought that the league had wanted a "kinder, gentler" league. Even, the NYR/Tampa series has become quite nasty. I have never seen such stick work in a playoffs in recent memory. Have the refs been ordered by the league to put away the whistle in order to speed up the game? It's strange, but the players used to police themselves, but now they are punished for retaliation. Did potential penalties cause the players to stop fighting for their teammates? Did inconsistent suspensions cause players to turn away?
Anyway, the league had better wake up, and go in one direction or another. This half foot in the water stuff is making the game more frustrating than ever.

first... and possibly last, column I ever agreed with. Milbury is a poster boy fgor what is wrong with the league.... even more than refs that think they should have anything more to do with the game than call each and every penalty as the rule book syas and then disappear into the night after the game is over.

Is your outrage only for Boyle and players you like or when he called the Sedin's "the sisters", that was just fine?

We can agree that MM is an ass but I wish more were on that particular bandwagon in 2011.

Along with muting Milbury, I mute the whole broadcast if its Emerick, if I have to hear one more comment about a players college or minor league, team, coach, hometown, etc, I'll permanently maim something. We also don't need the prattling pedanticism, If we don't know the game by now, too bad. Call the bleeping game or let us hear the sounds of the game w/o the inane chatter! Keith Jones is the best part of their broadcasts.

Just feel the need to chime in as I will take any chance I can to bash Milbury, just like he dumps trash out of his mouth hole every time its open. That idiot is a classless blubbering fool. I seriously do not understand how the NHL allows him on air to have any sort of representation of the league in any way. I can not stand when he is on intermission duty. No one cares or wants to hear his sorry take on the period and what he thinks of a certain play or whatever. He's just a rude, clearly bias and opinionated jack wagon who hates everyone unless they are wearing a flyers jersey.

nice read Paul!

whooo I feel better.

somebody please start a fire Milbury facebook page lol

rant over.

lol deep breaths deep breaths.... but summed up quite nicely I've never understood how guys like Milbury, Healy, Stock, Kypreos get hired in the first place. It's not like they need a @#$@ focus group to confirm that everyone projectile vomits every time one of them opens their mouths

Obviously all of the above have compromising photos of various NHL/CBC/Fox executives having coitus with a yak.

bob mackenzie's one liner to milbury on air was still the funniest thing I think I've ever seen hockey related.

Milbury (speaking about Shanahan getting the leaf's president job) "I wish I could have skipped coach and gm to become president"

Bob Mackenzie: "so do the Islanders"

That was great. And Millbury's little fake laugh after, like the idiot knew it was true.
