why not try to trade schenn or grossman first?
- 2Real

I guess that's my point. He's more important to the team than some of our other dmen, but I just don't wanna see MDZ get all female dogy during negotiations, him want like $4 mil for 6 years, and hexy to comply and give it to him.

Do we believe Del Zotto is still in their plans?

And I look at TB and watch their crazy passing and think there's one pair on the Flyers that can do that (G and Jake). Insanity.

- bodiva88

Hasn't he been quoted saying "we need to get him signed" or something like that?

I think it's schenn and grossman on the outs

Haven't back read, but hextall can simply extend a qualifying offer, right? Isn't he still an RFA?

I'm gonna be honest, I'm not 100% sure how RFA/ qualifying offers/ offer sheets work. So I could be nervous about something completely irrelevant. Don't take what I say 100% lol

Any player that you have as an RFA can be given a qualifying offer, which is a one-year offer at a 10% (I believe) NHL salary increase. The player does not have to accept the offer, but submitting the offer keeps him under your control.

If he does not extend the qualifying offer, any other team can submit an offer sheet to him. If he accepts the offer sheet, the team that still owns his rights has 7 days to either match the offer sheet or decline to match. Based on the offer sheet amount, there are different levels of compensation given to the team that previously had his rights.

And yes, he can. MDZ has little leverage in negotiations.

Okay understood. I just looked it up too. Reading your explanation and the one I looked up makes it easier to understand. I have trouble learning/ understanding things when I read them. Reading comprehension blows. Thanks for the explanation though. Really clears a lot of things up lol

No problem, glad to help.

I still wish the Weber offer sheet had worked. I know some people have soured on him, but if only the waiting period was like 48 hours, Nashville wouldn't have been able to scrounge up the $$ to pay him. It may have put a stop to the VLC and AMac contracts, too.

From the conversation on the boards the last couple of days, I appear to have very fringe opinions like liking Luke Schenn and not hating Rinaldo

i love it when people think our biggest issue is some random 4th liner
- 2Real

I love it when someone points out a bad signing and some knuckle head with poor reading comprehension thinks they're saying it's our biggest problem.

I love the fact that Hextall is bringing in fresh talent to compete for roster spots. Unlike some of the fanbase, it's apparent that he realizes that very few players should feel secure in their roles on a team that has missed the playoffs 2 of the last 3 seasons and hasn't won a playoff round in over 3 years.

Honestly, outside of Giroux, Voracek and Mason, everyone else should be looking over their shoulder.

They can sign all the defense help they can, better not mean they don't pull the trigger on Provorov (or Hanifan, unlikely but all scouts are different) if one should fall to them.
- MatveiDmitrii

I think it's safe to say that signing a 32 year old defenseman to a one year contract, is not going to alter the Flyers draft strategy.
