I'd still keep #7 and just use it on a forward which they still need players at for the future too.
- ob18

If, somehow, Hanifin and Provorov are the 2 best options at their pick (assume Strome and Marner are gone), would you think about trading down to around #10 and try to pick up one of Barzal/Rantanen as well as some other picks/prospects?

Yes I would seriously consider that as an option. But for now based on all of the prospects I've watched I like sitting at #7 (for now).

Not sure how this place didn't explode when someone suggested Laughton and a 2nd or 3rd for Drouin.

With all due respect that is the most outlandish trade proposal I've seen in a long time.

- hereticpride

How is it outlandish? There are some only willing to offer up the 7th overall pick and there has been debate if this would be enough to get it done. Laughton as it stands is the much lesser playerthan John Drouin but still a former late first rounder.

Laughton and a 3rd for Drouin would be viewed as a bad deal for Tampa Bay by the majority of the hockey world. I like Laughton a lot, but Drouin has the much higher ceiling. That said, I don't like Drouin's attitude. Very whiny.

Mason also gave a lot of credit to Reese for his turnaround. So if that's any indication, management can't wait to rid itself of Grossmann's services.

If Drouin steps up after the trade he's ELC is done in 2 years. Might be tougher to fit under the cap with all the other contracts they currently have on the books.

Stick with keeping #7 for our own use.

I don't think Tampa would trade Drouin either way. Drouin still saw 70 regular season games with 3 of his 4 goals being scored on the PP. So he's been playing.

I think the most outlandish offer I've heard is simply offering Tampa's pick back straight up for Drouin. I think this offer is a slap to the face. To OB's credit, I think it's just a sign of how much OB would rather keep the picks.

I'd prefer to keep the picks even would Hextall as he's said many times.

Let me ask you this Drouin is struggling to get in the lineup & even when he does he's having a tough time doing much with an already talented roster. That might mean nothing but it could also show a lot & something you want to pass on.

Does anyone really think Laughton will develop into a regular NHL'er? I'm not sure he has the wheels and size to be anything beyond a role player.

I think he does but as long as he plays his game. This might be the kind of coach that will help that happen.

I do, yes. I think he could be a solid player...not flashy or spectacular, but solid.

Yeah there's something about drouin that makes me say pass. Everyone last summer was predicting drouin, drouin, drouin, for the calder trophy. Obviously that's laughable now. I think he was basically playing sheltered minutes all year, and that obviously says something that the coach was using the default calder favorite, in such a sheltered way. 28 assists is decent, but couple that with 15- 20 goals consistently, then I'd revisit it. Until then, I'm skeptical about something with this kid.

I wouldn't trade the #7 pick. Also, Drouin and Laughton will have their ELC's ending at the same time. That said, Drouin could fill our need at LW in the top-6. But yes, if he becomes the guy he was projected as, he'll want to get paid. Same could be said if Laughton steps up and finds some (some, not all) of his junior success at the NHL level.

I'd consider offering Tampa back their pick and maybe B. Schenn for him.

I'm not opposed to that, I'd consider it.

The thing with Drouin right now is pure potential. And right now, his trade value is pretty low, so if the Flyers really are interested, now's the time to buy.

Yes I do. The flyers didn't draft someone in the first round that they thought would only amount to a role player.

I think he definitely has the speed, at least from what I saw earlier this season. Size... that's something he could put on over the years. He's 6'1, that's a decent height, if he adds 15-20lbs of muscle, he'd be a big boy.

He actually has some decent puck skills. I thought he'd be another N-S player much like Couturier, but he showed a little bit more skill than I expected. I'm not saying he's Forsberg or Datsyuk out there, but I don't think he's a 4th line grinder, either.

Please tell me where I have said I'd offer the #7 pick for him.
