establishing a culture.

its ok to have a coach for a long period of time. you know.. culture.

The coach doesnt put on skates and score goals.

We are in a rebuild, but just hired a coach who likes winning and can build a winning culture while we rebuild.

The issue that the negative nancies are having is that they think you need to be last every year to rebuild.

(frank), all I have heard for the last 3-4 weeks is how we need to have a winning culture for these young guys while we draft and develop players. Now, people are in here crying about the best coach the Leafs have had since Quinn

yup. same with phil. that's why i think both may never reach their career highs in TO. it was shinny out there. PH tried to implement an actual system. Unless they go to Pit, JVR and phil will have to tone down the offense for some responsible hockey

I'm saying there's more stages than just Rookie and Veteran. Galchenyuk's not a rookie anymore. By Marty's arguments, that makes him a veteran. He's still a developing asset, and I believe JVR and Bernier are as well.

A veteran is a guy you expect other players to learn from either on or off the ice.

Going from all out offense and possession Ron Wilson, to defense-first, no possession, Carlyle, to all out offense, still no possession Carlyle, to all defense Horachek in the span of what, 3 years? Probably doesn't help player development.

exactly. name one player who's played consistently through all that baloney.

They dont have much of a staff and the ones they do, cant be blamed for past mistakes.

Nobody is blaming them for past mistakes. I'm saying they haven't proven they are capable of stock piling elite prospects who become elite players like the Red Wings have and frankly very few teams can or have done that. So to hire Babcock and then expect unproven management to provide him with what he had in Detroit is fairly unrealistic.

I know the counter argument here will be the age difference between Galchenyuk and JVR, but I also know you didn't mean that.

Also, it should be noted that JVR and Bernier have never had the prominent roles they have on this team under a coach like Babs either. We gotta at least see how they handle it before we cut bait with them
