I still prefer her acting in Showgirls & Any Given Sunday, but this is a childhood fave scene...the angst of taking caffeine pills. Gripping.

Even then, I don't think we've seen all JVR has to bring yet. IMO he's still a developing asset, even if it's taking a while(big guys take longer).

IMO, in order to be considered a veteran, you should be a known asset.

I think to convince Babock to sign here, the Shanabinder needed some alterations. Do you see Babcock being perfectly okay with having no 1st line center, winger, defender or goalie for the next three years and coaching a last place team? I don't.
- JohnFergusonJr

With the roster as is, he wouldn't have 3 of those things! So either A) they have trades lined up that they told him about, or B) being OK with that is exactly the case.

Babcock doesn't have to prove anything to anyone, winning in TO even if it takes some time is well worth it, and he knows it. Unless he's dumb, but I don't know him so...

So Leafs players begin to be veterans when no hope of improvement remains?

Duthie - Will this be another one of those leaf quick fix things

Dreger - Babcock signed the deal not only knowing but welcoming the change that is coming to the hockey teams player personnel. full knowing this team has to be worse before it gets better.

" Thats why he took the job"

suck on that JFJ / UG seriously.

- Lee Denault

(frank) Dreger pretending to know what Babcock thinks. Only JFJ and Babcock know what Babcock thinks.

fair point.. but does that mean clarkson is a developing asset?

different teams run different systems.. and all too often guys have better years under a certain system and then flip to a horrid year as soon as they try to play within a certain system.

or perhaps the line chemistry gets changed up

there are many things that can effect the "known" asset other than experience.

for instance.. think JVR would have better numbers if he were a penguin playing alongside crosby? wouldnt be unreasonable to assume so.

What will the return be for Kessel?

How about Phaneuf?

Think Nashville's pick just might grab a good player? What about the rest of the rounds this year?

What about all the guys you conveniently forgot: Brown, Leipsic, Johnson?

What about the guys who a couple years ago were the future, like Kadri and Gardiner??

What about 26 year old veterans that were drafted high and had a good pedigree like JVR and Bernier?

The answer to all this is that you guys are deliberately poopting on a good day in leafs nation.

And I'm not your (frank)ing bud, bud

- TheThrill

Come on bud you can't start counting draft picks or prospects coming back for players that haven't been traded yet....

I think the Leafs need a lot more than just picks from the 2015 draft.

But he's not a rookie, and apparently you're either a rookie or a vet.

edit: and neither is JVR.

- Feeling Glucky?

21 vs 26 years old is not the same thing.

That's like saying Rieilly and Gardiner are at the same stage of their career.

League source tells me #Sabres thought they had deal in principle w/ Babcock 2 days ago around same term/dollars as Leafs. Maybe even 9 yrs.

Yeah, to the teams that can find them. But have the Leafs been one of those teams that can find them? Do they have people on staff who have proven they can find them? I don't see any on the way, do you?
- JohnFergusonJr

They dont have much of a staff and the ones they do, cant be blamed for past mistakes.

I don't get it. Are we rebuilding, or trying to be competitive? Which one is it?
- ThePresident

We are in a rebuild, but just hired a coach who likes winning and can build a winning culture while we rebuild.

The issue that the negative nancies are having is that they think you need to be last every year to rebuild.

(frank), all I have heard for the last 3-4 weeks is how we need to have a winning culture for these young guys while we draft and develop players. Now, people are in here crying about the best coach the Leafs have had since Quinn

Can't win for losing with these guys

No. JVR might be asked to think about his own zone and wilt.
