i hope you are right. im preparing and expecting a LONG rebuild personally.
- clark_griswold

Agreed. It will take time for the new core to develop. You can't look at Calgary right now and say "that's what I expect to happen". In my opinion Calgary caught lightning in a bottle and I expect them to regress next season.

I'm just messing with ya.

Signing Stamkos is always a good idea.

But it's amazing how things have changed from a couple of weeks ago since Babcock came on board.

Clearly optimism is back in Leafs land.

Sorry man, I know you're good poop. Been a rough day.

Boss is all up in my business. keeps female doging at me for spending all day on some hockey site. What the (frank)s his problem

If the Leafs want to follow the Detroit and Tampa Bay model, they should try and sign Nikita Zaitsev.

Much as people want to poop on all our guys, Rielly, Kadri, JVR, Bernier aren't (frank)ing terrible players.

It's a light-years better core than Stajan, Blake, Kaberle and Toskalol

- TheThrill

They aren't very good either unfortunately. Take away the age, kadri is still a 2nd line centre (on a good team i say 3rd. He's not a 2nd liner on any of the final 4 teams right now)

Bernier unproven and while i think he's good, he's not convinced anyone he's a #1

Rielly, no doubt. building block

JVR i like but he's far overrated simply by his contract

agree light years ahead of the 2008-9 roster, but is that a great thing really? couldn't get worse

how old are you? not being a jerk..just wondering?

im 34. i've seen your quick rebuild on the fly fail several times. i would gladly take 5 years, hell 7 years to get it right. not just a playoff team, a CONTENDING team.

seems the younger fans are more impatient. A rushed rebuild takes years, or decades to repair. we are still reeling huge from the kessel deal, 6 years later. that's just one trade. don't get me started on JFJ

- clark_griswold

I'm 36.
As said... a 5-7y rebuild (I'm reading this as 5y+ 'tank seasons') is not a sure formula for success.
I guess it's a mentality as well - I don't like not to not try to win on purpose. If you're Arizona or Florida, maybe - an original 6 team should never do a 'let's lose next five years with hope to win in 10 years').
Better fail trying than fail to try (and way better fail trying than try to fail).

if leafs can't sign a legit top GM (ie Poile) I would not be surprised if they went completely out of the box and get a GM in place like Theo Epstein or Billy Beane.

And Fabien Brunnstrom

First step of that process better be trading away all the veterans for a pile of picks and prospects.

I can't be the only one who thinks hiring a coach before hiring his boss is weird and probably means the man who gets the job won't be a top dog in the buisness?

No?

I mean if things start going badly, Babcock isn't getting canned, Shanahan will turn around and fire the GM/sacrificial lamb.

i never said it's a sure formula, but rushing IS a sure failure. i also don't want to tank on purpose. it's going to happen naturally. we have stunk when we tried to win; now we are fine with losing - how do you think it's going to go?

if turning around a franchise was that easy, no GM would ever be fired
