You think that the .7% difference in alcohol makes any difference?

Hell, if your goal is to get drunk, throw some James ready 5.5(5.5% alcohol! Omg!) in the cooler until it has as little taste as corona or Stella, and have at it. It's like half the price.

If you really want something to get you drunk, look at some Belgian beers or IPAs.

Unibroue Fin du Monde: Delicious beer and 9%. A six pack is about $13 and it's essentially the same as a 12 pack of Corona with less needing to piss

Yes all the time. Different kinds of tea as well. Mango & Peach Tea‎ is really good.

None of us know how long it'll take b/c there is a lot of luck and good/bad fortune involved. Sounds like DP and PK are still likely on the block.

15/16 - patchwork of youth and vets finishing low and drafting high.
16/17 - probably the same.

After that they should have added 5-6 really good young pieces through the draft and trades and Babcock has had 2 years to help the roster play better hockey. Maybe they're ready at that point to take a stab at some meaningful UFA's. There's a real chance that the 'expectations' start to grow at that point.

It's a moving target …we're all guessing. But I don't foresee 5 years in the gutter before they start to improve.

- The Law

no one knows. absolutely. but the good pieces we add are also (should be) years away from making it, let along being solid contributors.

i see:

2015-16...crap, trading off assets...get some good picks
2016-17...crap, Nylander comes up , hopefully Brown (to prove me wrong)...good picks
2017-18 crap...doubtful but possible hanifin, marner / strome has rookie year

and on and on.

I'm a big fan of IPA's... many IPA's happen to also be above 5%.

(As an aside, both the "Mad Tom" and "Twice as Mad Tom" from Muskoka brewing are excellent)

- lumlums

Yup …both nice picks.

At least they are beginning to lay a good foundation to build upon. It is a damn good start, if you ask me.

i said "this roster won't generate good results no matter who coached" (general comment)

you "well you forget that before carlyle was fired i was alot closer to being right than you" (the bet)

who brought it up again?

- clark_griswold

This is what I responded to:
This roster isnt giving u good results period. Sorry Gluck, i know u had high hopes this year pal.
- clark_griswold

Nice try though. Maybe try making valid points instead of going the route of condescension

Nice. Mrs Lums makes a mighty fine iced tea.

I may or may not have thrown some spiced rum in there before...

Of course, the leaf's future is definitely brighter today than it was two days ago. Cautious optimism by the fans is definitely acceptable.

But does the general narrative change when a team tries to buy respectability instead of earning it?

I speak from experience because the team I support did the exact same thing.

- bloatedmosquito

It's an interesting question.

I was in favour of the salary cap because I prefer an even playing field. If the Leafs ever do win in my lifetime, I don't want to hear how they bought a championship.

On the other hand, the Leafs, through the Toronto fan base props up much of the league financially.

I don't feel too guilty seeing the fan base go out and pay for something they want. If that fan base can afford more than other fan bases it is probably because they are bigger and pay/spend more money on the team. Again, I don't feel guilty about it.

First off, read the location.

Second, I was makiing the kids' lunches this morning (about 7:30 am). Opened the fridge to get out some ingredients, and a 6-pack stared back at me.

I swear to Babcock, I thought "hmmmm, just one of those would be pretty tasty right about now..."

Yup... For some reason here the 12 pack of Unibroue is cheaper than a 12 of Keiths, or Corona, or pretty much most of the regular beer. No complaints though!

I'd like to think you are better than this, Bloatsie.

We bought Babcock to help us earn respectability.

What happened to you?

You used to be so good at this. Battling Uggie, crapping on the Leafs' logo, making fun of Mayor Ford.

You were like a Komarov, except you had talent and actually did stuff.

Now you just serve up this? Luke-warm meh pie?

Are you trolling in the Habs or Philly threads, and just coming by here every so often out of courtesy?

Your nothing but a Hockeybuzz whore, Bloatsie.

And it hurts us.

It hurts us bad.

I was wondering who was the arbiter of what is acceptable and what is not from Leaf fans. I had no idea it was you until now.

It's not like they're just throwing money at UFAs and hope they play well together. Babcock turned down a near identical offer from Buffalo, a team considered to be ahead of the Leafs in the rebuild, because after talking with Hunter he decided he liked the Leafs direction more.

That's where this moves gives the Leafs legitimacy. One of the top coaches in the league is endorsing the direction they're moving in.

All this, but more importantly he went home and told Mrs Babcock they'd be moving to Buffalo. That changed everything instantly.

This does change the perception of the Leafs.

Babcock can definitely operate a toaster. That's for sure.
