I want you to quote someone saying that?

Someone may have said that this will make the club competitive again more quickly but I have not seen any Leafs fan claiming that now we will be a contender in 2 years or anything like that statement.

So who said it would be a fast rebuild?

- Aetherial

i never said contender , but i think we are looking at a lottery (bottom 3-5) for years. here's the first one i can think of. if you haven't seen ppl claiming it will not take 5 years, you haven't been paying attention.

Maxiums Aurellius this morning, after i said it will take 5-7 years:

"This is not the 1970-1980s anymore.
Current league is very very close, with teams winning cup one year not making playoffs next year WITH (virtually) THE SAME PLAYERS TEAM.

tank to get 3 top 5picks in consecutive years is absolutely no guarantee for good playoff results 5y later, neither is trading away first rounders a guaranteed formula for bad results 5y down the line.
There are various ways how to become competitive and to win, and various ways how to end up failing. It was NEVER an option for the TML organization to have a 5y tank program, NOBODY would accept that and it WILL NOT happen (independent of the fact whether it woudl have been Babcock or an OHL coach being head coach for TML 2015-2016)"

Some optimism is fine. What I'm seeing on here is just plain old lunacy.

Recent state of affairs showed that multiple coaches could not get this group of players to perform. I don't think babcock has some magic spell to fix this mess. Going to take time and a whole lot of work to make this better. No one person has that great of an effect. It's up to the whole management team to step up.

Phaneuf played in the WHL in 01-02 and Babcock's last season was 00-01. Dion was drafted in the WHL in 00 though.

He must of met Phaneuf through try outs and such.

Pretty much the only beer I don't like are (a) the flavourless, watered-down piss sold as "domestic", and (b) anything that tastes more like fruit then beer.

Unless you are a 17 year old with limited time in your high school parking lot before the school dance, you really do not need beer higher than 5%.
- Atomic Wedgie

Need? Of course not.

There are some very tasty beer out there that happen to be more than 5% however. From everyday available such as Innis and Gunn (6.6%), to more occasional brews such as Schneiderweisse Aventinus (8.4%).

Mrs. Wedgie will come back with Corona and Stella.

Two beers that the homeless won't drink in their native countries, but somehow get marketed in Canada as premium beers.

Canadians can be such suckers some times.

- Atomic Wedgie

Hold on a second. You can't compare stella to corona. Stella's 5.2%. Great beer if your purpose is to get drunk.

I see more leaf fans on here taking joy in the fact that Babcock proved much of the MSM wrong by choosing to coach the leafs. More of a 'we win!' attitude.

A leaf fan posted yesterday that leaf fans were the true winners with the babcock signing. I still don't understand it when babcock hasn't coached a single game or the leafs yet.

- bloatedmosquito

I'm glad you've come to us, Bloatsie. I'm happy to explain.

General narrative around the hockey world two days ago: The Leafs are an effing joke - nobody in their right minds would go there. It's a black hole.

General narrative around the hockey world today: generally regarded as the best coach in hockey, all it took for Mike Babcock to agree to coach the Leafs was $50 million.

You can't see how that's better?

Beer has become more a part of my life from the moment that I started writing my thesis. 300 pages, and most likely 300 beer along the way...

There is some suggestion that he expects a faster rebuild than the rest of us, but it really is not the kind of thing that Jero, and you, are basically saying is occurring among Leafs fans... nevermind the "lunacy" that Bloatsie thinks is going on.

Most of the pints I drink are above 5% …I don't drink them b/c they're high alc. only b/c they just happen to be delicious. Nickelbrook and GLB are putting out some of the best ale's I've tasted in years.

So your position is Leafs fans should take no joy in good things that happen to the organization? Sounds like that to me.

This is my favourite work of yours BTW:

sure. it can be 5. theres no set time frame. i'm not trying to kick the fanbase when it's down, but if you haven't been paying attention, it's not rocket science.

shanny wondered if we have the stomach to take what's coming
babcock "there's pain coming"

point is, no one is saying we've hit bottom and are on our way up. The worst is yet to come (wait until we dress AHLers because we ship out all or most of our guys for picks.
