You made me laugh JM. I am waiting for G to do some crazy stuff this summer
Exploding golf clubs, slapping butts...what's next? I can't wait, I'm so intrigued.

G gets midget strippers to jump out of a giant cake to surprise Brayden on his birthday... One of the strippers slips and takes out Voracek's knee, leaving him with torn ACL and MCL. G goes over to check if Voroacek is OK, stripper is now pissed and embarrassed at this point and starts hitting G with the cake topper, thus breaking his wrists in offseason tradition.

Since the Oilers are going full-Mc with McDavid and McLellan, what about trading them MacDonald for Nikitin? I know there's an extra a, but hopefully it wouldn't be a deal breaker.

Played mostly a 4th line role for Canada except for one game. Benefitted from generally easier matchups than he gets in the NHL. It's not apples to apples, unfortunately.

it would be really nice if the Flyers could find a cheap defensive minded center to take some of the heavy lifting off Couturier. I really feel his development has been stunted because he's had to play such heavy minutes against top competition in the infancy of his career. As well as playing with some crappy players on his wing for the most part.

Can Laughton be this player? I hope so.

It's not like if Vinny walks away from his contract here, that he and his family are gonna have to stock up on ramen noodles. I'm quite sure Vinny is already setup for life, since he's been collecting a big number since he was 18 years old.

Don't get me wrong; I'm not begrudging him collecting what is owed him. But if he's in some weird denial about the state of his abilities simply to collect a check....he might not be the guy everyone purports him to be. Which isn't a bad thing, considering I think most athletes aren't the people they are built up to be, because it's unreasonable to think they aren't real people and don't have flaws.

I'm sure he's aware that he isn't the player today that he was 10 years ago and that it is impossible to become that again.

I'm sure he's aware how much money he is owed.

If he's smart, or if his financial management team is smart, he/they understand that walking away from that much money, no matter how much you already have, is just not a smart thing to do.

In the end I'd be shocked were he to agree to a mutual termination.

I'd be equally shocked were a trade made where the Flyers aren't on the hook for a significant portion of his remaining contract.

And then there's a buyout. I know the public stance. I think it was foolish to make that declaration. Steadfastly refusing to buy out the contract, imho, is a mistake. From my seat here in my completely in the dark about what is really going on with this issue cubicle, a buyout seems like the best financial play the Flyers have.

But, really, wtf do I know?

They could just spell it wrong on his jersey. There is precedence.

Well since Leighton's last stint with the Flyers, how many NHL games has he played? Leighton caught a hot streak not unlike what Andrew Hammond just did in his late 20's. Everything prior to that hot streak indicated Leighton was a tweener NHL backup/minor league goaltender.

The proof is in the numbers. 105 NHL games with a .901 save % are minor league numbers.

Ok, and he played what, 33 regular season games and 16 playoff games with the Flyers? I'm pretty sure Homer knew what he was.

Agree with everything. Money trumps everything including pride in the real world. If he terminated its highly unlikely he'll see the same amount of cash in his next deal.
Vinny has all the cards. Just play it tough and he'll get bought out again, that's his goal. Flyers should do it

Any North Dakota players eligible for the draft who were expected to be taken in the fourth round, likely to be taken with Tampa's pick now because of the connection?

A buyout this summer would be much more expensive in terms of cap hit than a trade with maximum retained salary, and would be on the books for six more years rather than three. I see why Hextall ruled out.

2015-16 2.889
2016-17 2.889
2017-18 2.389
2018-19 0.889
2019-20 0.889
2020-21 0.889

What is the maximum salary retention allowed? And I assume that amount would be on the books for just three years, right?

Maixmum is 50% which would be $2.25m for three years. But salary and cap hit have to be retained at the same rate, so I believe the most the Flyers can retain is roughly $1.4m for three years.

Taking a leaguewide gaze. What system would he most likely fit in with?

Imho it seems that they can't keep enough to make it worthwhile for a team to take him via trade.

Leighton re-signed with the Flyers with a two-year deal on June 30, 2010, one day before he was set to become an unrestricted free agent, with the intention of making him the Flyers official starting goaltender.

This indicates to me, Holmgren didn't know what he was. But water under the bridge at this point.

Never came to fruition because Leighton was covering up a back injury.
