"Adios, Vinny. Sorry things didn't work out, but it's time to get out...you don't have to go home, but you can't stay here. "

as we used to say at the end of the night in a blues band I used to play with
"let the front door hit you where the good lord split you"

Please, Just close the door quietly on the way out with your 2 mill bonus.

Funny that this blog seems to intimate he will go peacefully????
Thats our miracle for the year if that happens

I thought it was in that neighborhood, too. And I don't care who you are, that's a lot of money to just up and walk away from.

Sens have signed Hammond (aka this season's Michael Leighton) to a 3-year deal at $1.35M. Lehner or Anderson have to be on the block now.

I'm glad they enjoyed that whole Hamburglar thing as much as I enjoyed the 2010 Stanley Cup run.

It's past midnight now, however, and I think Cinderella has turned back into a career minor league goaltender.

Basically, if Vinny stays around after still collecting checks from Tampa, he's just collecting "(frank) you" money.

If they draft a goalie prospect, trade umberger next year and eat some money or buy him out. Your correct the trade will look just fine

It only took Holmgren 4 years to figure out Michael Leighton was a career minor leaguer, but everyone isn't the quick study Paul is.

Bill,

Would be interested to know your thoughts comparing how Sean Couturier was used by Team Canada versus how he was used by the Flyers last year. In particular I was thinking about his offensive output.

How so? It's two different contracts. One has nothing to do with the other.

Huh, that's a lot less than I thought he'd get. It's still more than I think he's worth, but I suppose there's a whole bunch of "thanks, you salvaged our season" money in there, too.

wonder if a team within 5 picks of the Flyers were desperate enough to move up that they would take Amac to do it? If I'm the Flyers I'd move down 2-3 spots to get rid of that contract

It's not like if Vinny walks away from his contract here, that he and his family are gonna have to stock up on ramen noodles. I'm quite sure Vinny is already setup for life, since he's been collecting a big number since he was 18 years old.

Don't get me wrong; I'm not begrudging him collecting what is owed him. But if he's in some weird denial about the state of his abilities simply to collect a check....he might not be the guy everyone purports him to be. Which isn't a bad thing, considering I think most athletes aren't the people they are built up to be, because it's unreasonable to think they aren't real people and don't have flaws.

Played mostly a 4th line role for Canada except for one game. Benefitted from generally easier matchups than he gets in the NHL. It's not apples to apples, unfortunately.

Well since Leighton's last stint with the Flyers, how many NHL games has he played? Leighton caught a hot streak not unlike what Andrew Hammond just did in his late 20's. Everything prior to that hot streak indicated Leighton was a tweener NHL backup/minor league goaltender.

The proof is in the numbers. 105 NHL games with a .901 save % are minor league numbers.
