Top end skill, edge probably goes to JvR. Both are streaky-as are a lot of good offensive players. Intangibles definitely swing to Simmonds, though.
Overall I'd lean to JvR, maybe not a huge difference, but enough of one that I'm comfortable in choosing.
That's not a knock on Simmonds, BTW. I think JvR has elite level skills if he ever puts it all together. - Jsaquella
Well said. I agree. JvR could have become a really dominant top 5 player I think if he pushed his game up a notch. That Boston playoff when he was on the Flyers showed glimpses of his potential greatness. I feel like he's settled into a comfort zone in Toronto the past couple seasons and don't see him ever reaching that superstar level.

Just my opinion - but i take Simmer without question. - wilsonecho91
Yeah I think I'm with you on that. Like Jasquella stated - Simmonds brings more intangibles to the table. I think his energy, toughness and leadership are a value that JvR can't match. I also think Simmonds can become a much more productive player 5-on-5 if placed on the right unit.

No question Simmer has the intangibles but JVR has the skill by a mile. Simmer is an average skater. I would take JVR over him on this team right now. If we get a skilled LW for te 1st or 2nd line this summer, then I would take Simmer. It's about needs.
youre insistence on not trading for yandle is quite puzzling too i might add... you champion the cause of much lesser blueliners. - JoeRussomanno
Not puzzling at all. The Flyers need a top 2 way defenseman that can play in all situations. As I stated earlier the Flyers already have two offensive minded defenseman in Streit and Del Zotto. They can't afford to give up top assets to acquire another one dimensional offensive defenseman.
Will never forget that goal. Stood in line for 3 hours and missed 2 classes because Rowan was selling $20 tickets to the game. I think they had like 80 tickets. Got mine with about 10 people to spare.

Reminded me of Danny Markov on Brodeur in 2004.

I went and saw two games of that series in NJ, and I remember the upper bowl being totally empty, and there were more Flyers fans than Devils fans. It was quite pathetic.

Wow, Markov, Zhamnov, and Malakhov bring back a lot of memories. Malakhov was one of those guys who had elite skill, but just couldn't put it together for long periods of time. I really hope the Medvedev siging is a prelude to getting Zaitsev also.

Sounds like a SCF game in NJ. I think Phantoms playoff games outdrew Devils ones.

Markov should have been retained. Letting him walk was a mistake. But both Zhamnov and Amonte were 2 of the better "past their prime" rentals that Clarke got. They were both contributors during that run. Malakhov was thrust into a bigger role that he needed since Desjardins was out and Jonsson was playing with a broken hand/arm (forget which). But yeah, he never quite got to the next level.
Leight. The Phillies gave her a bunch of free stuff including a signed bat by Franco and she got to meet him. The guy who got the ball got like some free vouchers or something.
But yeah, that dude is an bumhole. Of course the national media latched onto the "Typical Philadelphia fan" narrative.

Good. I'm glad the Phillies made it right. What a complete asshat ripping a ball away from an older woman.
What % of goaltenders who have never won a Cup, that have the nickname "The King" have given up a combined 11 goals in consecutive playoff games? - PLindbergh31
You're taking the lazy, easy narrative, view.
Tampa is fast and swarming the Rangers. They don't know how to deal with it and are playing terribly as a consequence.
But yes, that OT goal is one he'd surely love another shot at.

I think I was at the Phils game that day and I think it was the first year of Citizen's Bank ballpark. We ditched the baseball game early though to watch the Flyers at McFadden's. The place went nuts when Markov scored that goal. Usually, it was the Devils that scored those "how the (frank) did our goalie not stop that" goals.
