None. The only possible top pairing dman who could come available this summer is Brent Seabrook. He probably comes available because of the extension he is going to want, the Hawks probably won't be able to give him with the extensions of Toews and Kane kicking in. Also, the Hawks would probably want cheaper assets to help alleviate their cap issues.

Seabrooke does have another year left on his deal.

Exactly what are you basing your "Simmonds is a PP specialist" thought on?

He had 50 points this season and 14 of those were on the PP.
Last season he had 60 points and 15 of those were on the PP.
Since 2011/2012 he has averaged 25 goals a season and would have broke 30 this season.

Beyond the obvious stats above...

What top pairing dman are you getting for any package that doesnt involve 1 of Giroux or Voracek?

- opeth_pa

when are most of his goals scored?

zach bogosian?

Borderline top pair defenseman. I like him though. Wouldn't trade Simmonds straight up for him though.

Nope, but he's a good player at ES. His career best 60 point season, his PP and ES point totals were pretty evenly split. Play him with a playmaking center or LW, and he'll score at ES.

I so desperately want them to come out of this summer with a legit playmaker for line 2. It would be an absolute huge move to help get this team going 5 on 5.

well youre gonna struggle for a longtime finding defensemen. i find it funny you wouldnt trade simmonds for bogo but you defended the jvr for luke schenn trade pretty strongly.

Biggest forward need for this team, preferably a LW.

You're right, I did. Simmonds is a better player than JVR is in my opinion. You're right, the trade market for defenseman is a struggle.

What % of goaltenders who have never won a Cup, that have the nickname "The King" have given up a combined 11 goals in consecutive playoff games?

Yup. Thats what I'm leaning towards. Wouldn't mind a Center either. I think they're more than set at RW.

It would've been nice to pull in 22, 23 or so, but the value of the 1st and 3rd don't change that much at this point. No skin in this game, I dislike both teams.

This season: 14 ES goals and 14 PP
Last season: 14 ES and 15 PP
2012\13: 9 ES and 6 PP
2011\12: 17 ES and 11 PP

So over the past 4 seasons 54 ES and 46 PP.

youre insistence on not trading for yandle is quite puzzling too i might add... you champion the cause of much lesser blueliners.

You are correct. The Hawks probably wouldn't have much interest moving him at the deadline because pretty sure they will be in playoff contention. They could probably get a very good package this summer with a year left on his contract with a combo of an NHLer, prospect, and high draft pick.

There is precedent of having established NHL players being traded entering the final year of their contract. The most recent example I believe was Thomas Vanek being traded to the Isles.

Yandle!!!!!!!!

Wouldn't trade for him. The Flyers already have Streit and Del Zotto. Yandle is not the right player for the Flyers.

- MJL

I think what you are seeing is what many aren't. Luke Schenn and Nicolas Grossmann don't put up points regularly, so they're considered ineffective players. By having Streit and Del Zotto a guy like Mike Green who will see the open market this summer isn't a fit for the Flyers. I think the moment you take away both Schenn and Grossmann, you might be missing a certain element we were missing back in 2008-09, which we've already forgotten and tried to fill this hole with Andrew Alberts. Without having a true number one defenseman, we have to fill certain holes on defense by committee. I don't think Morin is going to come in and be a both a physical force, a consistent shot blocker or strong enough to go head to head with to players who will school him. Until we find that number one stud, I see nothing wrong with bringing in different defenseman that offer different things. In fact, I think guys like Willie Mitchell, Sean O'Donnell, Robyn Regehr are more respected as to what they have to offer later in their careers, especially on contending teams. The defensive defenseman role is by far the most thankless job in hockey but you need them for deep Cup runs.

Because that is what I have ever said... and the best ever is saved for Couturier.

The key in today's NHL is to collect as many defensemen who skate in quicksand, and handle the puck like a grenade. That's the blueprint.

Incorrect. The key is college coaches and Russian Dmen.
