Even if that was the best offer, he should have turned it down. If Hartnell played the season in his usual spot with G and Jake, he would have had his usual 55-60 points and been more tradable this year.

The Jackets aren't a cap ceiling team. Maybe they'll take Umberger and the 4th back for Hartnell. Save them tons in the long run!

- PhillySportsGuy

Right or wrong you keep leaving out they didn't want Hartnell on the first line.

Lightning look awesome! I expect they will score and start exposing Yandle every time he steps on the ice.

LOL @ Carle.

It's still a little early to gloat, but that Yandle narrative about him not being able to play defensive hockey is sure as poop done -- plus-6 in 21 games in the regular season with the Rags, plus-1 in the playoffs thus far

They just didn't want him on the team because he didn't submit to their fascist reign

Clearly the Flyers are going to move some players from the back end.

NHL starters:

Grossmann
Del Zotto
Medvedev (will be at least in the beginning of the season)
Streit
MacDonald
Schenn (debatable)
Shultz (was supposed to be the Flyers 7th dman last season)
Gudas

Phantoms / youngsters banging on the door and never really panned out / window is closing quickly players:

Alt - doesn't look good for him
Hagg - hopefully he shows something this year
Lauridsen - doesn't look good for him - window has probably closed
Morin - could make the team out of camp
Gostisbehere - could make the team out of camp or be a call up during the season
Manning - call up reserve player
Sanheim - dark horse to make the squad out of camp

- Pixote Andolini

alt-ternative

I'm not gloating sir. Actually Yandle hasn't even been that good for the Rags. Their fans have been shredding him. He came up big in game 7 vs. the Caps though. Assisting on the series winning goal.

I did say it was extreme. We just don't know. personally if Umberger and Hartnell both play the same way in 2015/2016 as they did this year that will put the trade solidly against the Flyers. Unless we get another top 10 pick.

+/- is a team stat. Yandle is an outstanding player with the puck, without the puck, not so much.

It would be interesting if Sanheim makes decision making tough on Hextall and Hakstol. It's not as if young defenseman one year removed from the draft have never made it to the NHL. We have a boat load of defensmen. Problem is, I'm not sure any of them have a balanced two way game with fluent puck moment.

Any contract data on the Russian Dman? Picking up decent FA's on short term contracts can aide a rebuild. It frees up assets to be traded for picks or younger players. A huge + in the cap era.

Not sure what specifically you're referring to, but again, deflecting away from the issue of anointing AHL players as better than established NHL players based on a small sample of games.
- MJL

True dat especially in lecavaliers case. It's going to take a special kind of player to come in and show Hak they have what it takes to unseat him. Is the preseason and camp really enough time? His resume is impeccable

Man, Yandle's been fine -- some people are never happy. They wanted him to play offense like Paul Coffey, while playing defense like Kevin Lowe, when all that dude has done is given them superior mobility on the back end while fitting into the Rags' system

The Rags are giving up, what, less than two goals a game in the playoffs? Some people are just never gonna be happy

Absolutely. I know the Flyers were wow'd by Sanheim last camp. Morin nearly got into a regular season game as well. Gostisbehere had his injury set back.

Not at all. A 6 million dollar 3rd pairing guy on a good team apparently. He's a forward playing d.

See, I don't understand how that works -- if Yandle was minus-12 on the Rags, nobody would be saying "that's a team stat." They'd be saying, "See, Yandle sucks on defense, and we told you so."

The Rags are giving up around two goals a game with Keith Yandle playing 18 minutes a night. Not sure how he doesn't credit for his role in that, as a plus player

Well in my opinion who ever is saying that, may or may not be wrong. +/- is simply an indicator of what happens on the ice, when a player is on the ice. It's not an indication of a player being a good or poor defensive player.
No what else contributes to a good +/-? Offense! Yandle is an outstanding offensive defenseman and playmaker, and a really good outlet passer. Defending in his own end and down low, not very good.

Who stays and who goes? For the sake of argument, can the Flyers live with these 6 guys as regulars? I'm betting we haven't acquired one or two of our regulars yet that put us over the top.

We all know what plus-minus is, but when Yandle got moved, I didn't read anybody saying his -30-whatver was a team stat. All I heard was that Yandle was a terrible defensive player and the Rags were weaker as a team by bringing him in

Still waiting for that to happen
