Ok. I'm done. We'll do this again in 6 months.
- PhillySportsGuy

6 months, a year, two years. Could take that long or longer to full assess the outcome of the trade.

Didn't really seem like bishop tried hard to see around Kreider.

Thats over one summer. It's a lot different. The landscape drastically changes over a few years. What if the defenseman all emerge and are still on rookie deals or early rfa deals? Cap space won't really be as much of a worry. What if the CAD bounces back and the cap balloons?
- PhillySportsGuy

I should be clear: I'm not really saying "you're wrong." Because you and MJL, in my opinion, could easily both be correct.

It's a horrible (frank)ing trade, in the short term. It could easily stay that way, especially if Umberger plays so poorly next season that he has to be bought out, which would make it one of the worst trades the Flyers have made since I've watched them.

But at the same time, there is still time for it to play out. Umberger could salvage his career, reinvent himself as an outstanding fourth-liner -- we've seen that happen before. And no matter when it happens, when that $4.6 comes off the books before Hartnell's, the Flyers are gonna benefit from that.

Now granted, I don't know if that will offset what the early returns are. But that's the thing: This one just needs a bit more time to play out.

If he shows that consistent level of play in training camp that he displayed last year when he was called up, he deserves at least a top 7 min
- 3flyerkids

The 7th defenseman doesn't play unless a player gets injured, so seeing that Brandon Manning is a young player, he should play. I wouldn't want Manning as our 7th defenseman. Either he wins a top 6 role where he plays regularly or he belongs in the minors.

Absolutely it is, because it's the same thing. The AHL player who was called up, played a few games, and now is better than the established NHL player. It's a different name every season.

Flyers player blows and is overpaid, and somehow the GM, the coach, the player escape any honest critique. It's a different name every season

Have to admit, I'm loving the reported misery coming out of Buffalo

Karma's a beast, and for how they did Pat LaFontaine, Ted Nolan and openly tanked for Connor McDavid, I'd say they have had the kind of offseason they deserved

Not sure what specifically you're referring to, but again, deflecting away from the issue of anointing AHL players as better than established NHL players based on a small sample of games.

Can't help but laugh at anyone still complaining about the Umberger deal. It should be judged in years 4 and 5 by what Hartnell is producing against what we spend the cap space on.

On principle we were always getting the worse player in the short run.

It's a bad trade whether you look at it now or in 5 years
- PhillySportsGuy

You couldn't possibly know that. Say Umberger has bounce back 20+ goal seasons while contributing on the D end while the wheels fall off of Hartnel. Then Hextal deals Umberger for a 3rd and 5th in 2016(while on his way to a 20+ goal season) at the deadline while Columbus is forced to buyout Hartnel in 2016/17. Extreme maybe, but we won't know for some time how this deal shakes out. At that point people would be calling HExtal a genious.

Lightning look awesome! I expect they will score and start exposing Yandle every time he steps on the ice.

LOL @ Carle.

Unless Matt Carle is done for the night, Carle has to be a lot tougher there.

Clearly the Flyers are going to move some players from the back end.

NHL starters:

Grossmann
Del Zotto
Medvedev (will be at least in the beginning of the season)
Streit
MacDonald
Schenn (debatable)
Shultz (was supposed to be the Flyers 7th dman last season)
Gudas

Phantoms / youngsters banging on the door and never really panned out / window is closing quickly players:

Alt - doesn't look good for him
Hagg - hopefully he shows something this year
Lauridsen - doesn't look good for him - window has probably closed
Morin - could make the team out of camp
Gostisbehere - could make the team out of camp or be a call up during the season
Manning - call up reserve player
Sanheim - dark horse to make the squad out of camp

Stamkos made all of that happen, Wow! By reaction, I cheered like I was cheering of the Flyers.
