Hextall said at the STH meeting in March that GMs from other teams were shocked the Flyers were out of the playoffs, then he fires Berube within days of the season ending. Inside and outside the organization the hockey people that mattered did not seem to be impressed with the job Berube did. |

Man, if Vinny agreed to a mutual termination, that'd be great. Could buyout Umberger after next season and only have about $1.5M of dead cap space after that. If Hexy can do that and somehow move Amac, it would be a great summer even if he did nothing in FA - PhillySportsGuy
Think it's possible to move AMac -- seriously. Even with the cap hit and term. There is such a dearth of defensemen in the league -- I mean, we had a pairing of Cumiskey-Timonen last night who the coach clearly didn't want to play.
MacDonald might not bring you much back, but they could find a home for him. Don't know if they want to without giving him a chance under Hakstol. Maybe that might be good for him? MacDonald might be a better fit under a different coach, if we're lucky |

PSG, in a perfect world....lol. I hope that happens as well. However, I am seeing VL sticking with the team for another season. If Hexy can pull off some magic, then maybe VL will be off the books, and I would go out, and purchase a Hexy hockey card, and create a shrine...lol. |

I don't think Berube was the worst coach in team history (hello, Wayne Cashman), but he was nothing special, either. He gave it his best, and he was able to help right the ship in 13/14. Sadly, he seemed to lose the team this past season, and I think it was best for both parties to part ways...something I can hopefully say about VLC soon. |

I think I read somewhere that, after the bonus he is only owed $3M for the remainder of his deal. If that's the case, he could probably catch on somewhere on a 2-year deal for $1.5M where he'll actually get to play and go out on his own terms. He's not gonna get that with the Flyers. - jmatchett383
I don't think that's true. I think he's owed $8m-8.5m over the last three seasons.
He's unlikely to get that much from any team, so a mutual termination is going to cost him money. It's just a matter of whether one of the highest grossing NHL players ever, who is still being paid $2m a year already, will agree to walk away from what will likely be $3-4m for a better chance to play and be happy. |

I'm not going to get my hopes up on a mutual termination with Lecavalier. If it happens great, if not, we'll see how he fits. |

Nor should he -- that dude is done like dinner. Amazed he doesn't see that. What I saw last night, throughout the playoffs, is a league where skating is paramount and separates the men from the boys
VLC had a nice career, but I have no idea what playoff team is gonna have a slot for him. He can't play at the pace the good teams play at

I really think both sides are going to play hardball on this. VL and his agent will push for the buyout. Hexy will push for mutual termination. Flyers have the leverage because they don't care about Vinnys feelings in the matter. Every year VL waits for the contract to end is another year he moves further from his prime.
I personally think he's washed up, but another year of being healthy scratched by another coach may result in only training camp tryout offers if he decides to terminate next offseason. |

The most telling thing for me was how the PK completely went in the toilet, and how he had no clue of why that happened or how to fix it. |

It will never be a solid trade but they can minimize the damage. - PhillySportsGuy
I don't think scotty would have been the difference between making the playoffs this year, and he will start to slow down in a year or 2....so at least we will have cap relief shortly which is almost as important as a good player. |

I don't think he'll go to a playoff team. Actually, I think a team like Buffalo/Edmonton could be a better place where he plays as a 3rd line center and serves as a mentor for young players. If nothing else, he's been much more professional throughout this whole thing than the Flyers have. |

I think they'd need to take someone back in return. I don't think a team is going to just take on that contract without shedding money. |

Exactly -- what leverage does he have? He can sit, if he refuses to terminate, which is his right. Because the Flyers have the right to sit him. If he causes a stink, he can get sent home |

I don't think that adding Hartnell would be the difference. However, adding Hartnell and subtracting Umberger may have been enough. That's basically addition by addition coupled with addition by subtraction. |

If Columbus wanted to, they could move Hartnell for at least a 2nd rounder right now. Thats just bad asset management |

"Adios, Vinny. Sorry things didn't work out, but it's time to get out...you don't have to go home, but you can't stay here. "
as we used to say at the end of the night in a blues band I used to play with
"let the front door hit you where the good lord split you"
Please, Just close the door quietly on the way out with your 2 mill bonus.
Funny that this blog seems to intimate he will go peacefully????

I thought it was in that neighborhood, too. And I don't care who you are, that's a lot of money to just up and walk away from.

But if you listen to some clowns on these trade sites, they think the Flyers need a goalie for the future. |

Cap space that the Flyers desperately need to use on a player they will play. |
