Check out the poll in the leaf's blog.
Which Canadian team will be the next to win a cup.
I'll give everyone one guess who's in last place right now. |

How would you guys rank every team's chances? If Montreal can get better offensively this summer they'll be my top bet for sure with Price in net. Ottawa would be interesting if their owner wasn't so cheap. EDM will be a contender eventually, just too much talent. And CGY/WPG made the playoffs with young teams and good prospect pools. TOR and VAN would probably be my bottom 2. |

I think that's where the chips will fall. Pretty much every team you mentioned has an infusion of young talent. Hopefully the Canucks will be included within that list sooner than later |

This is what I wrote when asked the same question in the leafs thread...
It's a crazy question because it's going to be sometime before any canadian team wins the cup. Watching teams like Chicago and Anaheim it really puts things into perspective. All canadian team are so far away it's disheartening.
I'll only look at the next 5 years because who knows what's going to happen beyond that. A team has to make the playoffs first to compete. So I'm going to look at who (over the next five years) has the best chances of making the post season. Hopefully, with a whole lotta luck one of those teams strikes gold.

It's a 7 th round pick , not a first or second, it's a 7 th round pick, not a third or fourth it is a 7 th round pick, not an impact player, we're talking a 7 th round pick , not a depth player ! We're talking a 7 th round pick .

You made Iverson proud (didn't you say it was recently the 10 year anniversary of that? and yet it still plays out on some of the highlight countdown reels as one of the top segments) |

And the present - Nucker101
It was you that said a GM should try to hit a home run with late round picks. You dumped on Benning for being safe. Not that he is swinging for the fences as you strongly suggested, you are dumping on that too.
You know to actually have change you need to shake things up. You just can't clos your eyes and it magically appears.
I would rather lose big trying new things than play it safe with the same aging unsuccessful core and draft between 15 -25. Give me the top 10 pick with new personnel any day any year |

I see other teams drafting productive junior/college players or maybe guys playing on stacked teams or pro leagues in Europe that haven't gotten big minutes in the 6/7 rounds and I get depressed. |

Exactly, if he can bring that one dimensional aspect were missing, take a flyer on the kid.
People are forgetting that he didn't start playing hockey because of a disability until he was 12 years old. To reach junior and sign a NHL contract in that short a span is an accomplishment IMO. If he has as much heart as Benning seems to think he does, I bet he figures out his role in pro hockey in due time. - Gullzy
Exactly. No harm in trying. |

This guys upside is to be an AHL player or maybe a healthy scratch in the NHL who plays a goon role when needed. That's not seining for the fences at all. His skill set isn't very good for even junior hockey. |

Stewart will score the cup winning goal in 2019 assisted by Sbisa, and Nucker will feel shame. |

Shame on Benning for tring to find pro spots for every player he drafts, he should let them rot like his ancestors.
It sounds like you are a big fan of the draft side, the develop side not so much. |
