Are they not allowed to acquire more picks now? When did they change the rules? Those picks didn't disappear, they were spent on players management obviously felt would help the club. Baertschi is a very good 22 year old player with outstanding skill. Lord knows we gave up on a prospect way too early in Cam Neely, how'd that turn out for the Bruins? Hopefully it works in our favor this time.

In 11 months Benning has added an extra 1st round pick, a 2nd round pick and a third round pick to the organization. Three picks. He spent those picks on Jared McCann, Linden Vey & Derek Dorsett...they all had good to decent years.

He's used three future picks on Andrey Pedan (2016 3rd), Sven Baertschi (2015 2nd) and a 2015 3rd round pick from the Kesler trade.

So he's even on the picks gained and lost, I'd expect he'll be recapturing a couple for this years draft thru trades.

- LeftCoaster

Yeah I don't get that either. Fans say we don't have a second rounder. Bae will be playing on the third line or second line this year , same as Clendenning is ready to play.

How manyGMMG second and third rounders will be in the league this year. Good on JB

SOME of what he's done so far is concerning to me, but I'm a patient man, having kids Nuckers age will do that to you

Agreed. Sometimes it's better if the kids act their age & not their shoe size

For the record - I'm not a Benning apologist, I just think it's way too early to condemn a guy who's been on the job less than a year, not to mention he's taken over a situation from previous managements that left the organization with an aging core and a complete void in the prospect department.

Outside of the past two drafts we have very little, if any, size, toughness or skill...let the man perform his duties for a few years.

Aside from JV, Benning has never been in a position of strength at the draft. At 23 this year he will get a good prospect, that's it. He won't shock the hockey world in round one. Find a diamond in the rough and think you will scoop the other teams is also unlikely. Aside from sneaking into the top 10, meh.

As it stands today we have one pick that might contribute some day in the first. He's not a magician.

Like Lefty said we are not JB apologist, facts are facts. He has made the team marginally better, adding youth and grit. Gillis in all his years struggled to find a second liner or fourth liner.

Benning has brought a winning atmosphere to the Comets , and some of those players will get promoted with that same winning mentality to the Canucks.

All in all he did wonders in his first year

Gillis struggled to find trade partners, the ones he found bent him over. Essentially JB is the opposite with his background and personality, he runs into GM's and scouts on the road and built rapport with them, potential trade partners. Like CAL's Treliving. Gillis was simply out of the loop, when he had to make a move it cost him.

Going forward, I hope Benning acquires at the very least another 2nd or 3rd round pick for this year. Preferentially both.

Gillis was so out of the loop Luongo's agent went over his head to make the deal to Florida. When you lose the respect of your peers its game over at that level.

"Vancouver Canucks President & General Manager Mike Gillis announced today that the Canucks have acquired defencemen Christian Ehrhoff and Brad Lukowich from the San Jose Sharks in exchange for defenceman Daniel Rahimi and forward Patrick White"

I think he will, he loves picks. You can assume a big D will be at least one of his picks as well. There is no easy answer to compete with the kind of hockey we have been watching folks. To me a huge win for JB would be two 2nds, how he achieves that doesn't matter.

Nope, it was a fluke salary dump, two embattled GM's swapping turds. Van was just a quick holdover for some greedy pos looking for the brass ring.

He came in, insulted the Sedin's at his intro presser, displaced Luongo, alienated the fans, press, fellow GM's. Was at loathe to axe AV though his time had come. Considered the Presidents trophies a huge win. His legacy in VAN is that of an egotistical, arrogant, introvert that lost touch with the game of hockey at the grass roots level.

What about trades for Lapierre and Higgins? I think it costs a couple 3rd round draft picks, Oberg and Perrault. Was that a fluke as well?

What about the Hodgson trade? Not sure how legit it is but read somewhere that Buffalo thinking about buying him out. I don't think that was a horrible trade. Well, he didn't get bent over anyway.

Every GM has some duds and some winners. I think fans like to pile on Gillis just because it's the acceptable thing to do and it's fun. But objectivity would be nice once in a while.
