What? He also writes for the Leafs on Wednesdays, it would be like Colin never left!!

Edit:

I don't think my blood pressure could take Tanner being our blogger

Honestly? I wouldn't mind. At least he is entertaining. I actually would take Cloutier at this point.

The comments section would never be dull

The big question would be, can you write a blog while you are banned?

What about Whipper's dad Dal? could be the next best thing

If he can do the job why not?

I know that it's beyond my ability or desire, and if a dude like Whipper has the chops then all the power to him. Has he weighed in on the possibility?

I think he would do a great job. Maybe Dal, Whip, OG, Tommy and you could all take turns.

We need a blogger before the draft!

I'm not 100% against trading Huds... it would have to be a great return though. His value is at an all-time high right now.
- jtommyt

I don't like it. They had the 9th best line in hockey, and the dropoff after was so great it seems to be not worth it. I'd rather re-sign him for 2 more, add Gio back, settle the goalie situation, find a good FA signing, and draft well. If they miss then trade him next offseason if they have to. He is too important to the continued growth of JG and Money.

This is spot on. Johnny Hockey will develop into an incredible top line winger, but he still needs his training wheels (Hudler) until he gets there at least.

Should the Flames sign Toffoli to an offer sheet?
The Kings are up against the Cap with some key signings to still make and Kopitar only has one year left on his $6.8M per season deal and will be looking for more in 2016-17.
The dollar ranges that determine compensation for signing a RFA may change a bit after next year's cap is set, but currently, an offer between
$1,682,194 and $3,364,391 would cost a Second-round pick.
If they decide he's worth a 1st and 3rd for compensation, is he worth $3,364,392 to $5,046,585?

He's 23 Years old, 6'1" 200lbs. Right hand shot Center / Wing!‎

Would the Kings match? Could the Kings match?

Two things
- The Flames have all their own draft picks for next year's draft, so they can do this.
- Toffoli played in the NHL last year, so this won't be like the O'Reilly scenario that would require him to clear waivers.

This move doesn't even require Treliving to deviate from the plan, and it improves the top six talent, speed, and size.

I like the idea alot. Mr. Burke hates offer sheers though so I doubt he would let BT do that. Ever since Penner was stolen from him by the Oilers he has expressed his hate for acquiring players that way.

Although Burke doesn't mind using the threat of an offer sheet as leverage. Which I think they could do. Reality is that CGY IS the best team to help LAK out with their cap issues. They talked during the season, it wouldn't surprise me 1 bit if they continue those talks. CGY could easily take a problem contract from them with Toffoli being the reward. And this helps maintain relationships as opposed to offer sheets.

Here's the thing though... Huds doesn't generate scoring chances. His skating and puck handling aren't good enough to help the kids on the possession game. Johnny is a wizard, but he's best when we control the puck in the offensive zone, and Huds doesn't really do that. What Hudler did incredibly well this year was to convert scoring chances into goals... and that helped to boost his production. But we can't expect him to score on 20% of his shots again next year.

Despite the gaudy point totals, Huds would be better suited as a second line winger (maybe giving the same kind of support for Bennett next year that he gave to Johnny and Monahan this year), but if we can move him this summer to bring in a real good young defenseman I think you'd need to consider it.

Of course, you'd have to find someone to replace him (Maybe Justin Williams?)

If its just a second I say hells yeah. But I still think its premature to start throwing away firsts, especially if it is not to address the D situation.

I'd love to but I don't really have time...

I have a guy in mind though. I sent him a note suggesting that he get in touch with Eklund.

Let's look at UFAs then...

In BT's exit interview he talked about 2 key weaknesses that need to be addressed to improve this team moving forward.

Possession
Defensive depth

While there's potential that both of these areas could improve organically from graduating prospects and continued player development, there are also some UFA options out there that could really assist in these areas.

For increased possession the name at the top of the list has to be Justin Williams. Williams is a little older than we'd like, but he continues to be one of the top possession players in the league and could be a great addition to our top 6, helping the young guys to spend more time in the offensive zone with control. As much as we all love Huds, this really isn't something that he excels at... Williams might be an even better fit with Monny and Johnny than Jiri is, but either way we need some skill to play next to Sam next season too.

Other potential options include Drew Stafford, or perhaps the graduation of Emile Poirier.

On defense, our internal opportunity obviously falls to Wotherspoon and Kenney Morrison, but I think BT's mandate should actually be to improve the second pairing, bumping Wideman down to the 3rd pairing and allowing Hartley to deploy him against soft competition and with offensive zone starts.

Looking for a potential 2nd pairing partner for Russell top options include:

Mike Green (who is actually a significantly better defender than Wideman with similar offensive ability), Christian Ehrhoff, Cody Franson, or Jeff Petry.

Any of these players would fit in well on the 2nd pairing, and with our cap situation we have the room to add them.

Even a warm corpse would be better than we've got right now. I just noticed the Laughs have their new second blogger.

Guys...you can't expect everyone to (want) to write about the Flames. I too am a Leafs fan who happened to have watched and followed the Flames since I was a young kid living in the Prairies...but it can be tough for folks who do not follow the team to offer any insight. I'm sure the site is taking flyers on suggested bloggers as a few have reached out to me already.

Yeah, GM's gotta have a hard one for the player that others somehow missed or cant fit into their budget or team...rare, but the Flames are one of a few teams I could see taking a shot...maybe...

Anyone hear how the hell the Janitor has been doing? Wanted to blog about him the other day but theres limited to any updates for the kid.

I'd love to add a guy like Petry, he's a guy that can be part of the core for the next 7-8 years. Williams is a little on the old side, and has a lot of miles. I wouldn't mind signing him, I get why they would, be he wouldn't be my #1 target.

I heard the Janny was looking good in the Frozen Four. Chipped in a few points but from what I understand he's got a really good all around game. Should be interesting how he turns out!
