Unfortunately, I think Ramo's gone. I liked his play over Hiller's all season but I see it easier for the team to let Ramo go than to trade Hiller.

Ramo and Hiller are very comparable by the numbers. Both get hot for stretches, but neither appears to be capable of being a true number 1 goalie. If BT can find a trade for Hiller, I'm happy to bring Ramo back as he's the younger guy with potentially room to still develop, but the future starter for the Flames is either going to be Ortio or Gillies. I'm happy to see what Ortio brings to the table next year.

Yeah, both of these guys are just stop gaps until one or both of Ortio/Gillies establish themselves as a legit NHL goalie that can be relied on.

I'm doing well bud! My 3 month old is outgrowing his 6 month clothes already, and I'm traveling a little more than I'd like but life is generally good! How are things on your end?

Ducks fan here. I really enjoyed watching the Flames' progression this year and am hoping they don't take a step back like Colorado did this year. Especially satisfying was the victory over LA knocking them from the playoffs. Flames gave it their all against the Ducks. Not their year though. You're not far off, however. Gaudreau is a special player and reminds me of Kariya. I hope the Flames get bigger and offer him some protection. I'd hate to see him have the concussion-issues that Kariya had. You need to get bigger on 'D' and add some depth forwards. First line reminds me of the old Mighty Ducks. You shut that first line down and you shut down the team. Then you get to the goaltender. Hiller is a punk. He can be brilliant at times, but I don't think he's a good guy in the room. After a loss, he blames his 'D". Listen to real winners like Jonathan Quick in LA and he always owns the loss even if his 'D" let him down. I agree that you won't be able to trader Hiller but you certainly don't have to re-sign him after next year. Looking forward to next year's Calgary-Anaheim games.

Exactly why I had him in brackets above. I'm curious with Wotherspoon and what he does this summer. I'm sure he got a VERY clear message that he needs to take the next step or he'll be another Baertschi...
I can't wait to see what camp looks like this year!

- geta02it

yea it was underwhelming but he wasn't given that much ice time to really evaluate

I assume this is based on what the team/coaches see of him in practice and his limited game time.

The Puck Daddy writers continue their near-breathless assault on Calgary today. Those guys seriously discounted everything accomplished in the name of fluke.
And also Cooper wants to trade the guy that was 8th in scoring and helped two future cogs have amazing growth. Because why???

besides maybe morrisey we don't really have anyone pushing behind Spoon right now.

Based on how morrisey did and because he's a college product I could see him battling spoon for that last spot next year.

Is it a trade high moment for Wideman? He played well last year, and stepped up went gio went down. But if he's an offensive specialist I think he can be moved to a team that needs D that can move a puck.

That Big RW is a large missing piece out there. Hudler on that top line was great, but in the years going forward JG needs a bigger body to play with so that we don't get perry/getzlaf lines pushing them around.

queue The coyle trade :O

Raymond....done. Let poirier get his minutes or granlund.

Jooris...stock is high. on those bottom lines I'd rather have bigger bodies like Bouma/ferland/poirier/staj/jones. With a bigger Bollig, wolf or shore rolling in as needed. If raymond is untradeable his minutes will be down there too.

Byron....I think the playoffs showed he's an extra man out there.

great season. and collin thanks for the blogs. I'm cringing if we go back to the old bloggers now

Culkin was really making a name for himself before his injury. He could surprise this coming year.

All we need is a big RW and bigger top 4 d-man and we're set!

Maybe adding someone like,.... Mark Giordano to this play-off team would have helped them get to the third round. He's like a top 4 D-man. Joe Colborne putting on 15 lbs in the summer could help the RW issue, and also Joe continuing to use that big body to assert himself out there would help too.

They are all clowns on that site. Lambert is a joke and Cooper is LA based and clueless. They collectively including Wyshynski have poop on the Flames all year... Zero credibility so meh!

I'd like to see Poirier make the team next year, could use his size/speed/skill in our lineup. Hoping we take a dman in the first round as well.

I'm not 100% against trading Huds... it would have to be a great return though. His value is at an all-time high right now.

You're converting well . I'd like to see Poirier take Raymond's spot.

Trade block:
Raymond-- Will take a heavily used set of summer tires (tires do not have to be same size or capable of holding air) Any takers?

I'd be up for testing the market to see what guys like Hudler and Wideman can get us, but we can not afford to trade wideman unless we are getting a capable roster Dman back (our lack of d depth was highlighted in the playoffs). Also, Hudler would have to get us one hell of a return, personally I'd rather keep him.

I think Joe Colborne made a case for that spot, he had an awesome playoff and if he continues to put on muscle I think it's the perfect role for him. Hunter Smith could also potentially fill that hole in a few years, I hope we address our defense before trading for wingers that we could potentially fill with the draft (or perhaps already have in the system).

I thought Byron was hurt all playoffs (I also read that Ferland tore his oblique )

Really hoping we end up with some stud dmen in the draft this year.
