Shockingly, Luca Sbisa's agent says the negotiation with Benning was quite easy. - Nucker101
I hope Weber doesn't have the same agent.
Too many rfa dmen and none are the real answer. Make some moves JB. |

If Nurse got traded for Subban in the OHL last October, I bet Subban has more points than him this year. The difference between their junior teams is huge, similar to comparing the Sabres to the Hawks. |

Difference is, Shink is a 1st rounder and projects to have NHL talent and nearly did make the Canucks in his first training camp. Can Subban say the same? Gaunce as well was a first rounder plus he had 2 years seasoning in the minors to show he's close to NHL-ready. There's a HUGE difference in those situations to Subban. Why would you say it's Benning who's stalling the process? You're right that there's not much that can be negotiated so what would Benning need to stall for? He can't exactly lowball Subban salary-wise and all. I'd say it's more Subban and his agent wanting guarantees of some sort that would make Benning balk. - DariusKnight
So confidence is okay if you are a 1st rounder but it is arrogance if you are a 4th, sorry man I disagree.
Again you cannot make guarantees in a contract ( at least as far as I can tell) that pertain to playing time or deployment.
I honestly don't know why the deal isn't done but I think its ridiculous to suggest that Subban is the one who is stopping this deal from happening without anything to suggest otherwise. No one knows why, so whats the point in suggesting he is greedy and arrogant and that Benning isn't?
I think people hold his brother to different "standards" and see the same thing happening here. |

That's why I used age-adjusted PPG.
Also Nurse, Bigras and him are the same age. - Nucker101
Fair enough, I was under the impression that Nurse and Bigras went the year after but I'm wrong. |

Either way, his junior season this past year was very impressive. If I was a fan of another team, I'd be pretty happy if my GM traded a 3rd or 4th round pick for him. |

I agree but I think the size is the biggest concern when it comes to Subban, he is phenomenal talent and from the games I have seen he doesn't shy away from contact but that doesn't change the fact that he is 5-9 ?? and teams generally shy away from D that size. |

I agree Subban was excellent and Benning would be foolish not to resign him. If the deal doesn't get done and we get a pick for him, that's a bonus but I will still be disappointed. |

No doubt, but he's very well built for his size and like you said, he's not afraid to take a hit, make one, or battle along the boards. Clearly the offensive skill and hockey sense is there.
If he played as small as he is or wasn't interested in playing well in his own end, I'd be more concerned. The size factor is already being factored in, you can only knock his value down so much for it when he's coming off such an impressive season on a pathetic team. |

Only way I won't be disappointed is if gets signed here. If it comes out after he gets traded that he didn't want to sign here, I'll be pissed at him but will move on. Any other scenario and I'm officially on the "fire Benning train". |

Holy Jesus he hasn't even been here a year yet. Seriously. Subban is an undersized D that can score does that translate to the NHL? No F@cking way. We are talking entry level contract. Fire a guy who has been scouting and evaluating junior talent and character his whole career no way. I think saying you're overreacting is an understatement. Benning has more years as a scout alone the you do in years alive. |

See all of my posts over the past 2 pages. Subban is a damn good prospect, undersized or not. He might not pan out, but this organization can't afford to let quality prospects just walk for nothing. Losing him for nothing is horrible management. |

Oh I read them all. I really don't think they will lose him over an entry level contract unless Subban has no interest in being here at all. |

I guess you chose to ignore the fact that he's coming off of a damn good season and that the Canucks severely lack quality defensemen prospects? |

You know the new GM is off to a so-so start when people continue to say things like "that contract isn't that bad guys!" or "who cares if we lose one decent prospect for nothing, he's too small anyway!"
Every minor mistake that hurts your team eventually builds up and you end up like Toronto. Again, maybe Subban is the one holding this up so I'm to ready to blame Bnening about Subban right now at all. But if Benning is the one who's iffy about signing him and lowballing him with low bonuses in his ELC due to his size then we have a problem. |

Why? He's progressing nicely so far. If he struggles in the AHL then maybe try something dramatic like that, but why force him to change when it's worked out great for him so far. I love how some people just assume he's going to struggle with his size, he wouldn't be the first small d-man to have a legit NHL career.
He's coming off of as great junior season, switching positions at this point is a slap in the face for him. |

True, but it is Tuesday so make him a winger |

Oh I know we do. Benning has also addressed that issue to a small degree with Clendening, Pedan. Both filling an area the desperately needed to be addressed. So its not like he has done nothing. Traveling over seas to view talent when he has scouts to do that. He has tackled his job head on. I like that and respect it. |

That's fine and I do agree that it's nice to have scouting-oriented GM for a team in the Canucks position, but just because he loves scouting, that doesn't make him the best scout ever otherwise Boston and Buffalo would have had perfect drafts while he worked for them.
Vey hasn't worked out yet, especially since he was basically traded for Garrison who is a top 4 d-man. Clendening has been outplayed in the AHL this year by Seguinetti and Corrado according to people who watch them regularly. Sven and Pedan look like good moves so far though.
I just can't help but feel like some people are still in the honeymoon phase with Benning and are afraid to critique him, if Gillis was in this current Subban situation, I bet some people here would already be calling him out for not being good with dealing with other people or whatever. |

We beat you in 6 games without our best player and have a better group of young players than you plus a higher 1st rounder this year and way more picks. |
