I know. Thank God he wasn't a Gillis pick or else Benning wouldn't bother re-signing him either.
- Nucker101

I am sure Benning wakes up every morning and wonders" How can I piss off Nucker today?" First he trades Kesler, signs Sbisa, won't sign Subban, and I heard he is trading Horvat for Kunitz. He has it in for you

I've come to the same conclusion myself.

Just saying, losing a good prospect for nothing would be stupid as hell. And it's not like he wouldn't be able to at least get like a 4th round pick back in a trade right now since a team will likely have to use a 3rd or 4th, maybe even a late 2nd to draft him if he re-enters the draft anyway. So if he's let go for nothing, it would rank right up there with the Sbisa contract.
- Nucker101

I am not sure why Subban hasn't signed (doesn't care for the Canucks?) and can't see the advantage of going back into he draft and then getting picked by another team he doesn't want to play for?

Thinks he will be a higher pick? and a richer entry level contract?

Not a lock to make it to the NHL, but the Canucks are dying for a dman that can generate some offense. Chances of making the NHL are as good in Vancouver as anywhere else.

I'm very curious as well, because both the agent and Benning keep saying that they're still "talking" but rookie contracts are pretty standard, only bonuses can really be negotiated(there's a max for a base salary a rookie can earn). So bizarre.

As Jason Brough states 'canucks are deep in dynamic young d-men'. Maybe that's true and Subban's concerned about depth and playing chances.

Pretty sure that was sarcastic...

Canucks have one of the worst d-men prospect pools in the league.

Yeah, I think that was sarcastic.

Our d pool is so shallow. Haven't had a dman step up and make any sort of real impact in ages. People talk about Kassian and fans wanting to cheer for him.... If Subban is going to make it in the NHL, he could own this city.

Doesn't make sense.

Yeah, apparently Demko was planning it all along since it was an injury he could play through.

If Benning doesn't get Subban signed or at least trade his rights, I'm done with this new management. It's inexcusable to not get one of the two things done.

- Nucker101

Benning knew what he was getting into when he took over this club. Give him a few seasons to unhandcuff some of the NTC's and go from there. We had five new player additions under Benning this season there is no reason not to expect the same amount of changes for next year. Relax dude...Tuesday...

Canucks haven't had a good young d-man make an impact quickly since Tanev and before that, Edler.

People keep ripping the Luca Sbisa signing but I love it. He's young, big, fast and throws hit. I wish Tanev did that, I still can't believe they paid Tanev that much money.

I would go that far. He can trade his rights quite easily if Subban won't sign here so losing him for nothing is inexcusable.

Oh for sure it would be inexcusable. It's somewhat inexcusable that it has gone this far, but I am still willing to believe that Benning has some master plan that will reveal itself in time. Clearly, Gillis taught me nothing.

It's probably because Subban is trying to leverage his name and pedigree to get guarantees of playing time/spot on the Canucks. He can see how thin the Canucks are on D and thinks it's his chance to stick his foot into the door via contract negotiations. I've read an interview where he was quoted as saying he doesn't want to go back to junior this year and wants to play on an NHL team.

if that's true then I'd probably look to trade him for a draft pick. What kind of precedent will that set for all future Canuck draft picks if they cave into his demands? At that point, I'd just try to get the highest pick I can for him and cut my losses instead of even trying to negotiate with him.

Almost all players say they want to go play on an NHL team, I would be disappointed if that wasn't the goal. Subban as far as I can tell will be playing in AHL or NHL next season as this was his last in junior.

I really doubt this has anything to do with what Subban wants, again the only things that are negotiable are the bonuses. I don't think he can demand ice time in his contract or anything like that.

You guys are too liberal for me. I (frank)ing hate all teams but Canucks. Cant stand any of them. My hockey ends when the team that beats my Canucks lose. This season it ended when flames were snuffed out by kesler and Co.

Who offers, "guarantees of playing time/spot"?

Then again, we have been talking about WD and his loyalty to veterans. If he can make the club out of training camp, then great, if he can't well... Most people want what they earn. If he isn't ready for the NHL, guy shouldn't expect to be playing there. Feck it, trade his rights.
