With the cap going down it won't be easy to make deals, dumping salary will be on most teams priority list. The Canucks have been real quiet lately, they must have some kind of idea what the next step is. - VanHockeyGuy
I think managements next step will be ordering lunch, and even then they'll screw that up, end up trading the grilled prawns on their caesar salad for more parm.

I am here—and will be wearing flat shoes all week!
From what I've seen so far, Prague is great. Lots of old-world charm but also very modern—I guess since they didn't really start modernizing in earnest until after they came out from behind the Iron Curtain in 1988. Interesting mix. And the weather is great!
I'll write more later. Need to get cleaned up and head over to the arena soon to catch Sweden/France. - Carol Schram
Have a great time, Carol!!

But are they a sweet deal for him? I don't think he's ready to ride off into the sunset(unless it's to a good team). |

If I was Bieksa I would rather retire than go to Arizona.
I don't think Bieksa will go anywhere until his contract is up. |

Bieksa to Det for their second round

Bonino Horvat Burrows

Don't think so either, unless JB forces his hand. |

But he was so bad last year the team will probably send him down where he gets picked up by Buffalo |

He is not a JB contract. He was terrible last year. JB should not be forced to keep him.
Most GMs are given a grace period of 5 years to rebuild before fans get mad. JB should not have to lose a second year honouring the old GMs screw ups. |

Even if Miller agreed to go back to the east coast when he has specifically said he wants to be close to his wife and her work, would you really be okay paying more for goalies playing elsewhere (Miller and Lou) than the goalies playing here?

As bad as Bieksa was this past season, I don't really think you can call him a Gillis screw-up. This is what happens when players get old, especially when you pair them with terrible partners. When Gillis signed Bieksa to a 5 year 23 million deal, no one was wringing there hands saying that this was a bad deal.
I really don't think we are having the same conversations about Bieksa if he was playing with Hamhuis all season.
Would it be nice to see Bieksa get moved for some youth/picks, yes. Will it likely happen? No, given his history with the team and JB's fondness for meat and potatoes. |

If I am the GM and say if I have Miller Lack here for two years it is a little over 7 mil in cap space and salary . If Markstom is signed for under 2 mil plus lacks 1. 5 plus Millers 2 mil it is still a savings around 1.5 mil in salary and cap space . So yes I would.
Miller has probably played his last game as the starter here , not many other teams willing to take a 6 mil back up |

Again I will repeat if Benning sits and waits for all these contracts to end before he can seriously start his rebuild , he will be out the door before the last contract ends.
Term of a contract can be a screw up , same as a NTC. These are not Benning contracts.
He was brought in here to fix things, not let them die a slow death. |

I agree, he was brought in to fix things but so far it looks like ownership and upper mgmt are more concerned with making the playoffs. I don't think you see the aggressive moves until the Canucks bottom out with this group.
It's too easy to say this team was the 8th best in the league this year and last year was so obviously an anomaly. In fact that was the message that has already been delivered at the end of year media conference.
The youth movement will consist of Vey/Sbisa/Horvat/Kenins and likely Bae/Clendening/Corrado. Whether us fans like it or not most of the vets will remain the same.

How can he fix if he can't operate.
Torts said over a year ago , this core is stale and should have been changed years ago.
If Bening was not smart enough when he signed on to do this job , the power to make changes as he sees fit and not the ownership, then he would be as dumb as the rest of them.
The media would have an absolute field day brainwashing the public next year about how pathetic this core is if it was brought back in tact. |

Aquilini is not willing to give up playoff revenue, so Benning is just a puppet like Gillis was. I guess we are all puppets now.

I imagine he feels he has done his job successfully so far after one year, and even if I don't like some of him moves its hard to claim he hasn't met the goals he announced to the fanbase.
- Made the playoffs
- Added youth to the roster and pipeline
- Drafted meat and potatoes
if he fails to make the playoffs next year, then he likely is not doing his job, if the players he has acquired don't turn out, then he is not doing his job.
I know many fans want a complete overhaul but nothing this mgmt team has said or done so far has pointed to this happening. |

I seriously doubt we make the playoffs next year . I would rather fail with new faces than the same old ugly core.
I will be honest ,if our lineup has the same core next year, I am not sure I can keep my interest . I seen this same stuff year after year and it doesn't even come close to the type of hockey I like. Unless they are getting their asses kicked night after night and we are on our way to winning the first overall pick, I can't see myself cheering for another year of Bieksa Higgins and the rest of the Marshmellows and geriatrics . |

That is probably the best way to FA. Keep away from the rinks and merchandise. I didn't go to any games this year and no Canuck gear under the trees |

Is plan B a liquidation if they look like they are going to miss the playoffs next season? Have to wonder...
As long as they are competing and in the race for a playoff spot, I would guess the party line is to make the playoffs. If they go on a losing streak or are struggling, some options may open up that aren't there now. Hopefully anyway. |

We are 3 and 15 in our last 18 Playoff games. Why are fans so high on the playoffs? If the could do that in regular season we would have it made |
