You keep supporting the same pissy roster year after year. What the hell does Golfing know?

See what Matthias gets on the open market know it all

Maybe he'll get as much as Clarkson, that will really make you look smart.

No, I support change.

I just don't want to see a quality role player go for nothing because he doesn't fight. He costs 2 million dollars, and offers tremendous value.

How many times do you need to be told that it's not a bottom 6 issue with this team? Acquire the proper top 6 and slide people down, it really is that simple.

- golfingsince

Sorry having a safe player that does nothing well does not improve your team, but hey you want the same old sh1t. Good luck with that

I think the whole D needs huge amounts of practice. The single day of drills before game 5 made a huge difference and we won because of it. A single practice isnt going to last long. practice practice practice, then perfect it all season.

- SMBDragon

So they just need to practice more? That's the answer?

You want to keep improving this team by improving the bottom 6. Good luck with that.
I'd much rather improve the top 6.

You would actually need top end talent to swap. Sorry pal we don't have that. You need to pick the battles you can win.

I hate to break it to you but you can not trade Bieksa or Higgins for a top 6

The guy gets so much grief but he's miscast on the 2nd line. He had a terrible shooting percentage but was 5th in team scoring, kills penalties, checks well, can skate, even scored a couple of big shootout goals. It's not his fault he gets 2nd line minutes.

What the hell do we expect for 2 million ?

Also, Vantel would have given Matthias 3.5 million so what the hell does he know ?

- golfingsince

I've liked Higgins quite a bit actually but his time here has run it's course. He was part of the 2011 core and we need to absolve that. Time for him and time for us.

I think the key point being made by Golfing is that Higgins provides quality value, which is the case (is there ANY player you could attract for 2 million? let alone a multi faceted one like Higgins). I know he's not a game breaker but he does a little of everything. The cap hit is very low and he contributes in all areas (and yes, not his fault that he's getting 2nd line minutes - he should be a staple on the third line, though)

Moreover, his value to the Canucks is much higher than it would be for another team (similar to the Burrows dynamic). Hence, he's not going to fetch you anywhere near the same return that we would be giving up

No, but we can keep a 2 million dollar Higgins over a 3.5 million dollar Matthias and have more money for free agency or to take a salary dump like Sharp in a trade. Also, Higgins is a more complete player.

Higgins provides nothing.

He is getting old ,struggles to score and doesn't have third line grit. There are 100 other players in the league that can do that. You just can't keep rolling the same crap year after year and hope it wins.

What do you expect out of your third line LW and ask if Higgins is that specialist. If the answer is yes then I suggest you aim higher

Higgins is 2.5 I think. Matthias is a better younger player than Higgins and also does the PK . Neither one is what this team needs but Matthias will get his 3.5 somewhere

He's just miscast. When he arrived here he was a 3rd/4th line guy, and now he's drawing 2nd line consistently. The frustration is misdirected at why he's on the team, instead of why he's on the 2nd line.

4 years ago he may have been a third liner. These days he is getting ready for retirement. Acceptance is half the battle

Well, I guess once again we will have to agree to disagree. I think you're being quite harsh in your criticism. Again, Higgins is not a game breaker but he is a great utility player. For 2 million who else do you see bringing the same sort of 'complete' game that he does? By the way, Higgins had 171 shots on goal and 73 hits (as well as 34 blocks) which is not exactly a wall-flower in terms of grit. I think your definition of 'nothing' is slightly skewed

Oh, so the guy that scores 36 points should retire but the 27 pointer should get a raise to 3.5 million.

That kind of sums up your posting ability.

When was Higgins last playoff goal?
When was his last fight?
When was his last big hit?

He probably has 2 more years left in the league and it sounds like lots of people in Canuckville want to hand him his gold watch .

He does nothing special . He is a safe player. Safe players finish in the middle.

I would rather see a younger kid there and use the pick you get from Higgins departure to build towards the future...asset management.

Higgins is still a good third line winger, he has value, use it to your advantage. He had 12 goals last year, one of the kids can get ten for a million less than his 2.5. Use the third round pick you get from trading him to select a defenseman...it's a win win.

I was told he was a salary dump. If we can get decent value for him in a trade I'm all for it.

The organization has been far to short-sighted for far too long, it's time to start trading older players and bringing in younger ones who possess similar talents.

They can keep Higgins and have a 98 point season or play Jensen or Gaunce and have an 88 point season, either way, you're not winning the Stanley Cup. But the picks you acquire will help you build towards a future, letting guys walk away for free you get nothing...if that makes sense.

Does to me.
