I was listening to 1040 today, the had the MTL play by play guy or beat reporter saying, Habs need to make major moves this summer to find scoring. He said they know they will need to give up a first rounder and/or prospect or Galyenchuk.

If it was such a great model and easy to replicate, more teams would do it. I'd like to see this team actually establish it's only model and identity for once. It seem like we're always chasing/following some other franchise.
I just feel like outside of Detroit, the best developing teams give their top young players one full season in the AHL max, and maybe a half or so more. Once the player proves that he's a legit NHL prospect they not only call them up, but play them with other solid NHL players and put them in the right situations to play to their strengths. IE a skill guy plays with other top 6 forwards and gets PP time. A checker plays in a bottom 6 role with other similar NHL veterans. Not only does it make the player feel more comfortable and let them play to their strengths, but it gives them a defined role on the team. And they know what's expected of them. I see teams like LA/ANA/TB doing a pretty good job at this. - Nucker101
That does seem to be it for most teams. LA wins the cup, everyone wants to get bigger. Hawks win, everyone wants to get faster. This year, heavy emphasis put on youth....mainly because an 18 year old (who I doubt will ever be a factor in a series/season again) pretty much unravelled our team. |

I don't think that is the reason we want youth, we want youth because we now have some youth and in my case I'm so tired of this core. Keep Tanev and Bo and everyone else can go, either NOW or we'll have to wait 3 years. |

The 'We' I assume you are talking about are the personalities on this page, who IMHO actually are pretty bright, and know the game well...much better than myself. Going to other social medias of fan-dome, it seems like there is a naivety that we have 3 or 4 Ferlunds sitting in the closet just waiting to sweep a series. In fairness, maybe we do. People play over their heads once in a while, and make a difference..but probably not the sure fire success folks are hoping for.
Again, I've never been to Van,(lived in Seattle) really hope to someday, but the sense I get is that the city demands quick fixes AND immediate results. That's hard to do.
Tired of the core......yeah, me too. |

Speaking of the Red Wings, think we can pull a Sven and pry Anthony Mantha from them. Or maybe pull a Clendening and we can swap prospects. |

Why would we give up a guy who produces a point per game in the ahl for a player that produces half that? |

Doubt it. They'd probably want Virtanen or McCann. |

No, I mean get him from the Wings for a pick, just like we got Sven.
Or offer a prospect not fitting in to get him, like we did with Clendening. Chicago didn't have room for him, so we gave up a D prospect younger than him, to give Chicago more time to develop.
From what I have read DET is not happy with his development, and I like the kid. I think he's probably a little immature and could really turn out to be a great player. He sure was good in the World Juniors. |

So where does that leave us?
Sedin/Sedin/Kassian
Baertschi/Horvat/Vrbata
Burrows/Bonino/Hansen
Higgins/Gaunce/Dorsett
Vey
Edler/Tanev
Hamhuis/Corrado
Sbisa/Weber
Stanton (Or Clendening)
Miller/Lack
- chompsey
I cant imagine sven gets 2nd line time over burrows. No way. Burrows is too versatile and useful than that. And WD wont be doing that, thats clear. I also would hope MAthias is here instead of higgins (as much as I love him). Mathias doesnt have a lot of bargaining power and his production is better than higgins. Sure he's anamzingly smart player and makes good plays but his contract/production says no.
while I agree with everyone on here that bieksa is abysmal this year I just cant bring myself to rid the team of the toughness and edge he brings.....or maybe Im living in the past with that. I think the entire D needs some re schooling. Practice the poop out of those boys till they get it right! Lack of Practice and hockey education is the biggest problem with this team! Been that way a long time.
I think the area we need youth is on D. Corrado sure played like he wanted it. Who else on the D can you say that about except perhaps weber, but he'll never be more than 5/6/7.
I do hope they trade miller for cap space. We need it and maybe could add a D man via FA or trade. Hopefully they will land O'connor as well. |

except that we have no picks left in 2nd, 3rd rd. Only 1st and 4th. We'd have to trade a player to get a pick to then trade for a player.
Although Markstrom is certainly worth that.....and would clear some cap space too. |

I'd like to see McCann take a run at the position)
I'd personally like some youth on D but theres some players that wont be leaving anywhere and are probably stuck with bieksa for his final year. Sbisa is resigned and weber will be as well so it looks like....just please please Lidster dont EVER put bieksa and Sbisa together again!

Trade our scouts with Detroit's, let Detroit keep their development model and I bet know one gloats about Detroit's great developmental model like they do today. Scouting is just as important. If you draft well, the developmental process becomes so much easier. - Nucker101
Palat, Johnson both spent a couple of years in the AHL seasoning. Bring them up when they're ready not when you want to see them. By the same token don't let them rot away for years like DET did with Nyquist, though it certainly isn't diminishing their current returns. I'm surprised that you're taking this approach as you generally are knocking down people for pencilling in rookies. I think Chompsey's lineup is pretty close to what we'll see, with maybe Higgins being traded as well. Sven, Gaunce, Jensen, Corrado, Clendening on the roster is a massive injection of youth. Don't know why people are so upset |

If DET is willing to let him go for pennies, then I don't like our chances of turning his development around |

I mean I dont see why we wouldnt get a 2nd for Markstrom. Not the player himself.
He was comparing trading mantha to the sven deal which was a 2nd, which we have none of left. |

Matthias and Richardson won't be back. Kenins will make the team over Virtanen.
My best guess for the start of next season (just what I think it will be not what I want)

Canucks are in negotiation talks with Jerrett Smith.
But apparently quite a few other teams are trying to sign him as well.
This team has way to many bottom end and undrafted D-men signed already.
