Higgins for Semin straight up. Boom done deal. - thundachunk
Semin would take alot of pressure off the goalies since Van Fans traditionally like their whipping boys to be goalies. |

Vantel hates Higgins though, so he'd rather give him away for less out of spite - bezz44
Ive always thought alot of higgins as a player. He's very smart and makes good plays usually.
again this team needs practice....too many guys like higgins who could be burying chances instead of missing wide open nets etc. Team needs the direction that practice brings too. players need to know where to be....its always an open book of creativity in van....too much. thats why you get 4 guys along the side boards and IF they dig it out theres no one to pass too. Coaching staff....organize these guys please. do your jobs.
doesnt higgins make 4M? |

I understand that much, but he's not a guy to get rid of just to dump salary. He's a versatile player, just doesn't belong top 6. I think Jensen has much more business in the top 6, but much less in the bottom 6. - golfingsince
And yet he won't get a shot on the roster as relics with NTCs eat up roster spots |

Ward (not going to be 3 million for much longer)
Fisher (always injured)
Upshall (fringe player who, also, is always injured)
Stoll (does coke off of hooker's navels- not that there is anything wrong with that)
Williams (welcome to the 80's and fossilmania)
Brodziak (obscure wanker who gets a few hits on occasion and does little or nothing else)
None of these guys is a huge (or significant) upgrade on Higgins. However, if you look at their cap hits, you will note a substantial bargain in Higgins value). Again, you didn't answer the question, Vantel, of who you would be able to fill Higgin's (very versatile) role for 2 million or less - without naming players that are going to get significant raises in the next year/two years
You might not like Higgins but you can't deny that he has quality value - for being a fairly complete (aka 'safe') player at only 2 million.
Incidentally, I think our lack of more 'safe' type players was definitely a factor in our demise against Calgary - Zogg
Baertchi Jensen Kenins Gaunce Virtanen . News bulletin Higgins is just a safe player, he is not a world beater. This could possibly be his last contract.
If my GM gave up a second for him instead of a Guy like Ryder Cole or Ward for salary only, I would be very pissed

So they just need to practice more? That's the answer? - rugdnit
what I was saying is theres a lack of practice on the team and its resulting lack of organization. 1 single practice was enough to win 5 just by adjusting the team through practice on areas that needed it. If a single practice can do that imagine regular practice. its sorely needed. its pretty easy to understand.

The Gillis era will haunt us for a little while yet me thinks. Benning says he won't hesitate to ask players to waive. Time will tell if he holds true. He didn't hesitate with Garrison. |

I wouldn't go that far he has value just not to this team anymore. |

Not too many teams beating down doors for 33 year old third liners that don't hit |

Look at all the time they spend on the ice... The repetition for these guys must be mind numbing.
They have been playing hockey from what age? Oh sure... They just need MORE practice.
Either you can execute or you cannot.

No they dont....theres lots of optionals.
But regardless it obviously not in the right areas.....like they did for game 5. that shouldve been done all season. then we'd still be playing |

They are playing every second night , the body needs a rest. If they are still not sure in the playoffs of what to do then a 60 minute practice won't help at this time of year |

wow you sure dont like practice.
so like ive said already theres a problem on D all season long, you practice that stuff 1 single day and it improves the team dramatically and we win. how can possibly say we dont need it? the smoking gun is right there
I suppose youd rather just trade everyone...whole team |

Yah, once again, all of these players are unproven commodities. You can forecast ANYthing based on potential and possibility but that doesn't change the fact that it is only conjecture, and simply a prognostication. Please list players that have actually proven they are better than Higgins and at the salary level that he is at.
Oh, and here is some further data for you:
Brodziak - 20 points - 0 in the playoffs - $3 million cap hit
Ryder - 19 points (1/3rd of season missed due to injury?) - $3.5 million cap hit
Upshall - $3.5 million cap hit, 15 points
Fisher - $4.2 million cap hit - 39 points
Ward - $3 million cap hit (soon to be at least 50% higher) - 34 points
Stoll - 17 points - $3.25 million
So, what these stats say, is that it seems Higgins has not only greater cap value but much better performance |
