We have three picks in the top 60. By 2018 you guys will be trading them for other picks because they're redundant.

I'll admit, I jumped on the Coburn hate train this season. he didn't look like the same defender of past seasons, and I think we've pretty much covered that topic top to bottom, he's not as good/ comfortable being THE guy. When he's playing with a more dynamic defenseman, and he isn't the number one dude, he relaxes and his game improves.

Makes you wonder about AMac, and even Schenn. Maybe in the right circumstance they can get back to their play of a few years ago.

Ha. No, because Hextall will have a better plan than simply take carbon copies of the same player over and over and over again. When he actually has picks that haven't been traded away in salary dump deals.

Ok, that is slight hyperbole. slight.

It kills me how far away the draft is still

Gee thanks. I didn't realize it was the end of June until you got me curious and made me google it.

As of March only THW had him ranked in the top ten at 7 and 9.
- mayorofangrytown

Yeah, but that was because he missed a good chunk of the season. Out of sight and all that. He was 4th on the October ISS rankings before the injury.

You can always trade for a top defenseman.
- mayorofangrytown

Yes, it is hard to obtain a top defenseman. It is also hard to obtain a top center. I would not always choose a defenseman of comparable skill to a forward because I thought they were harder to get. Also, the last word on sports and Bob McKenzie's midseason rankings had Barzal in the top ten.

EDIT: Also, Ryan Kennedy, ISS Hockey, Eldon McDonald, Damien Cox, McKeens Hockey, and Christopher Ralph had him in the top ten.

amac I think is just extremely inconsistent. Other than that I like what he brings. he blocks a lot of shots, he's not awful in his own end, could be better offensively, but hey what are ya gonna do.

Schenn (I'm assuming you're talking about luke), I like what he brings in his own zone. He's strong as (frank) and can clear a crease with ease. He does everything that a defensive dman should do. he just poops every time the puck hits his stick and can't clear the zone. But as far as blocking shots, taking away passing/shooting lanes, board battles, hitting, positioning, etc, I like what he brings.

So the guys from THWs? ISS has him 12th in their overall, 10 in NA. McKeens is at 10.

Damian Cox and Ryan Kennedy both have LW Lawson Crouse rated higher. Why take a center if a LW is rated higher?

I'm not anti-Crouse, but despite the rankings, I think Barzal is a better prospect.

I agree but if you're going to hang your hat on these talking head's draft rankings then it wouldn't make any sense to draft Barzal ahead of Crouse.

Not so much my opinion as a point.

Personally, if one of the top three defenseman fall to me I'm grabbing them unless Marner or Strome drop to us. I can't see that happening but you never know.

I don't think Crouse is right for this team. He is a bigger version of what we have. We need a more skilled playmaker to balance out the top 6.

ESPN's analyst just had him 6th. Others have him high too. I've seen Provorov 6-7-8 or 12-13-14. That doesn't diminish either player's value. It just means subjectively they can go anywhere.

I don't hang my hat on them. I still take Barzal, but that's because I think he could end up as the third or fourth best player out of this class.

I think you could plug Crouse in with Giroux and Voracek and have a 25 goal scorer within a couple seasons, at most, maybe even 30.

But, like you, I prefer guys who will drive the play, either up front or from the blueline. I think a guy like Marner or Barzal will not just fit in as a good player, they'll elevate the level of play of those around them.

For the Flyers, too much to give up. For Columbus, too much salary. Maybe if we got a 2nd round pick back, especially the 34th pick. Then yeah. But there is a LOT of risk for the Flyers. Go big or go home for me lol.

Better than one of Strome and Marner?
