Im not seeing where you got that from.

I'll make it simple for you, seeing how you are only one half of the conversation I was reading. MJL continues to debate that Laughton is a top 6 forward and maybe he is but the Flyers seem focused on using him at center. So if I list the top 9 like this long term...

Giroux
Couturier
Laughton

Who is to say that this is wrong? Because the only solution I'm seeing long term is this...

Giroux
Laughton
Couturier

So what is the solution?

i think the flyers have great forward possibilities. but they do really need to figure out the slotting, and what they expect guys to be. in my opinion, the sooner the better.

Gee thanks for making it simple for me.

I don't see why both guys couldn't be used 17+ minutes a night in all situations down the line.

Brayden Schenn has played 4 seasons with the Flyers and still there isn't a solution. This current argument for Scott Laughton is that the Flyers view him as a top 6 forward because he was drafted 20th overall but we also have Sean Couturier who was drafted 7th within his draft, they're both similar and Couturier right now is easily the better player. No center is playing ahead of Giroux on this squad.

i really do think there is more to usage other than just strictly "lines" though.

whoever you eventually make your second line center. be it schenn, coots, laughton, however you line them up. you can still turn that third line guy into an ox if he can handle it.

yeah, staal may have only been a third liner per se, but he was still getting upwards of 20 mins a night with the pens. maybe not the most perfect example, but it can be worked out.

i still just think the biggest issue the flyers need to figure out is who exactly is their second center offensively. more specifically, what does that role entail.

Your Welcome, it felt it to be necessary. I think a much better mix is required.

When we had Briere, Carter and Richards, they all offered something different to the table.

I think we need to figure out who is best suited to be our second line center offensively but at the moment, both are struggling to run with the ball handed to them.

They can use guys as bottom six centers for a few years and then decide if they will be future pieces or trade bait. Laughton won;t be ruined if he plays 4C for a year or two, so long as he's not getting pigeon-holed.

Right now, they need to focus on where Schenn & Couturier will end up. Schenn could end up on RW, and I think he can be effective there. He's shown flashes at both wing slots as well as C, but I think he needs positional stability. If it's as a RW, fine, leave him there.

Couturier's case is a bit more complicated. It's easy to look at his defensive prowess and use him the way that Laviolette and Berube have used him for the majority of his career. There's a legit need for a shutdown guy and if that's all you want Couturier to be he can handle that.

But I think he can be more, and they need to give him the opportunities to be more and do more. If they go with Couturier as the 2C, it opens a slot for Laughton or Schenn as 3C

Agree with this but what happens next if the Flyers draft a center who is clearly an offensive center? As mentioned, you like Mathew Barzal.

yeah. this can all be pointless if you guys end up drafting some phenom who comes in and is solid in 2 years time. but i dont think those are bad routes at all.

i think by flanking him with guys like PEB and white, that can be a very good fourth line that doesnt necessarily stifle any development by laughton.

schenn being able to play a wing, and just stay there and be let alone would be best for him and the team in my opinion.

then it just comes down to couturier. i dont think the flyers have a lot to lose by putting him in the position to succeed with easier assignments, an upgrade on linemates, and just letting him focus more on the offensive aspects of the game for a good stretch. they just cant be too quick to make a judgement on it. i think its worth giving him a solid 25 plus games there if it works, then i think you can probably groom laughton into a good shut down role type. if it doesnt, then you can still go back to just having coots be that guy himself.

like i said, it still is possible to ensure that certain guys are still getting 17, 18 minutes a night regardless of their actual line denotation.

id assume that guy would need at least a year or two of seasoning wouldnt he? so you still likely need to carry along with this for a good amount of time. at the very least it would give you a good enough sample size to perform adequate diagnostics on players and their capabilities.

but if thats the case, and this new insert is that good, then he can always bump coots back down, and you have devastating depth down the center.

schenn will need to have succeeded at wing, or he is moved. by this time, laughton will likely have outgrown the fourth line fish tank as well, and will either learn wing or be moved himself. these are not necessarily bad problems to have.

When you have young players who of the age of 27, 23, 22 and 20, two years really isn't that far away. Development I agree is important but two years also isn't along time away.

no, but i think 2 years is long enough to have a much better insight into the ceilings of certain guys.

in 2 years time, if certain light bulbs havent gone off for schenn or coots, it becomes a lot more fair to wonder if they ever will.

For me it's a question of how long do we choose players who are the BPA whether they might be a fit or not and how long do we develop. What you propose to me is a developing cycle. I think we know what we're missing within our roster right now.

even if you can come to a consensus on what exactly it is that youre missing, how do you propose to go about getting it?

This would start with shedding salary, which to me is the hardest part.
