Waste of a quality pick for a franchise that doesn't make many.
It's a rookie contract so really all they can negotiate about is bonuses. Bizarre as hell. Maybe his agent saw Sbisa's deal and is trying to work Benning over with easy bonus money. |

Mark Guy says no further talks with Canucks about contracts for Brad Richardson and Jordan Subban.
Uggh, here we go.
Sounds like the Kevin Hayes situation.
I'm starting to get the feeling Jordan feels entitled because his last name is subban. - classic321
The guy is extremely undersized and he played for Bellville which plays on olympic size ice. i think his stats are inflated as a result. Would love to know what his home and away stats are, I have a feeling his home ice helped him a lot. |

Gillis got ripped on big time for his drafting but IMO he was finally starting to figure it out during his last draft year. He seemed to ditch the overage strategy and probably learned enough about each scout by judging their previous recommendations to know which ones to trust.
Horvat
Shinkaruk
Cassels
Subban
Cederholm(obviously some think highly of him)
He only really whiffed on the 6th/7th rounders with Liberati(who had a great 2nd half this year) and Williamson. |

No to Jensen, guys at his age with those AHL numbers usually end up in Europe. Subban was by far the best player on a crappy junior team. Put him on McCann's team and his numbers would have been sick.
I have him in the same tier as Cassels/Corrado/Gaunce/Pedan and ahead of Jensen/Cederholm/Etc. |

Heis not top 10 and will fall further after this year. I am not going to knock the guy but he is an undersized player who has yet to prove anything at the professional level yet. I am not going to lose sleep over it. |

Is agree with you if this team had a deep prospect pool. The prospect/draft is all about odds, the more decent prospects you have gives you a higher chance at hitting the lottery(meaning developing a good NHL player).
People ripped Gillis for trading 2nd/3rd round picks for rentals yet Benning gets a pass? |

I believe Benning is a good scout but what scares me is that he's in the same position Gillis was when he first got here. He has to learn about which scouts to trust and which have a bad track record. It seemingly took Gillis a couple years to figure it out(hell, even had to overrule his WHL scouts when they wanted Beach over Hodgson) during his first year here because he didn't trust them.
Benning's right hand man, Jon Weisbrod also had a pretty terrible draft as the chief scout in Calgary as well before being demoted. |

Benning traded our second rounder in his first year which has already played in the NHL for us . We traded Our third rounder for a Vey who played most of the season for us.
Gillis traded for rentals.
We have 4 spots to fill at most on D and we have players in the system who can step in anytime to fill them |

Not my point, sorry should have been more clear. I meant letting a quality prospect like Subban walk who basically is worry a 2nd/3rd.
And trading picks for prospects that other organizations were looking to move is pretty risky. So far the Vey deal looks bad. I have higher hopes for the other 2 though. |

Looking back at the 2013 draft now, most of the players are still in junior but just looking at their draft year stats. Shinkaruk I would have passed on. |

See post above, I kind of made a confusing comment. Wasn't talking about Benning's trade just that if he's letting a decent prospect walk away that's even worse than trading a 2nd or 3rd for a rental and he should get ripped for it. |

In favour of who? I think most of us were screaming for him. I loved that pick and still am a fan.
Gillis reportedly wanted Poierier(sp?), but Calgary took him ahead of us. Poirier had a very nice season this year so I think Gillis prepared well for that draft(I believe Eric Crawford was the one running it as the head scout). |

The big question is why are they letting him walk? Is there something in his game or personality ? Is he demanding? Like I said until he is a regular on the Comets he is just another name in the system |
