Where's the hate for Edler? He had 7 giveaways leading to 6 goals on the Calgary series. Bieksa had 4, leading to 2 goals? Dumb Vancouver fans getting it wrong again does Bieksa need to go? Yes he's on the Decline. But Edler needs to be the first (frank)ing guy gone. Pure and simple he sucks and has since he was 23-24ish. Trading Edler would be addition through subtraction.

Burrows Higgins have two years left. We are sitting in limbo waiting for these contracts to expire.
- VANTEL

As long as they can get some younger cheaper contracts, can afford to let burrows and higgins move down the line up.

I don't think that's the case, they'll be gone before their contracts expire. Higgins has a limited NTC and Burrows has value, although I don't see Benning moving Burrows this summer, Higgins won't be around for two more though...IMO.

Maybe it's because he's on the ice for almost half the game and has the puck a lot, but you wouldn't consider all the facts....right?

"You know who the leaders in most giveaways were this season? PK Subban, Erik Karlsson and Brent Burns. Two of the three are Norris Trophy finalists. You want your defencemen to have a lot of giveaways because it means they have the puck a lot."

I think this is what I have been trying to say. Bieksa has been terrible but so is Edler , they both need new addresses

I would take any of those before Edler. He shows signs of brilliance on occasion but he shows signs of brain farts way more

At 5 million per, he's an excellent 2/3/4 guy playing a lot of minutes...it's not like we have anyone better on the team or in the organization. The facts are we can't "take" any of the other guys.

So why is scoring so important like JB suggests? WASH & NYR are possible Stanley Cup finalists. Last nights game demonstrated how a well coached team that plays well defensively and has above average goaltending can have playoff success.

What we do know today about VAN;
Goaltending – Meh
Coaching – Meh
Defence – Next question please
Scoring – Meh
Grit – Below average

OV lead the Caps with 5 hits, leadership by example. J Beagle 6’3 – 215lbs 3-SOG, 2-Hits, 10-FW, 2-FL, 1-Goal. Are we not letting someone similar walk in Shawn Matthias? Get your character/grit and defensive house in order Vancouver!

But it won two cups and so did LA. I would be happy with that type of D for 4 to 5 years.

I hope Pedan and Treyemko or whatever his name work out. I am cautious though.

Like I said earlier , I would be working the phones to trade for Dillon. I really don't like Edler , never have been a fan and only have half heartedly ever cared for Bieksa.

If I could trade Edler for a PMD I would immediately.

Yandle is a good PMD and trading with NYR might work out for everyone.

Dillon Yandle
Hamhuis Tanev
Pedan Sanguinetti
Treyemko *sp

- VANTEL

I really doubt Dillon is available as he was rounding into form at the end of the season. Even if he was available you have to think that it would cost Tanev to get him....I know you are not a big fan of Tanev but either way its a sideways move.

Yandle will cost us our first rounder plus....again really not a good idea for a team trying to rebuild.

I hope Sanguinetti is resigned and get a chance but I think it was pretty telling that Biega/Clendenning/Corrado/Stanton were all ahead of him on the the depth chart this year. MGmt doesn't like something about his game.

The reality is that the Canucks do not have the assets available to make a big trade.

Higgins/Burrows/Hansen/Bieksa/Kassian/Miller have very little value and the rest of the guys are likely here to stay.

Lack might have a bit more value but the market is saturated with goalies. Markstrom has very little value and there is a good chance he isn't even resigned.

Botch dissecting Benning.

- LeftCoaster

I agree with more or less of all his points. I'm not sold on Clendening yet but he seems to see him as an NHLer next season...not really much of a choice as its waivers or nhl.

I think he also makes a good point that, Vey isn't disappointing because of his defensive play but because he didn't show the offensive spark that we had hoped he would bring.

One of Virtanen, Shinkaruk or Mccann will be on this team next year. Maybe even 2 of the three.

Hell who knows, Gaunce could slip in at a fourth line position.

- vancity787

Sedin Sedin Burrows
Baerschi Bonino Kassian
kenins Horvat Hansen
Gaunce McCann Dorsett

I doubt Virtanen makes the team. He's the furthest away imo.

I want more grit than Matthias brings.

We need more grit in the lineup, where is it going to come from if we keep Matthias and there is minimal change on the d core?

A healthy Kassian might be able to bring a bit more grit. If Sven is in the top 6 next season, he isn't bringing any grit .. If Higgins is still around, he brings the same amount as Matthias.

Too many guys that shy away from contact or pick their spots, and apparently are very picky. Hansen has to play a more physical game.

I think Virtanen has the size. I'd like to see McCann in the lineup, but he might have to bulk up some, thought I saw it mentioned he is 180lbs or just under. A little too slight maybe for his frame and the nhl game?

Said it before, will say it again. Smoke & Mirrors. Linden's challenge will be to demonstrate/explain what the plan is to season ticket holders, and pray they buy into his spiel (again), with a team that's trending downward.

Is that the plan? Pray those guys displace veterans at camp? It will come too late to sell season tickets. They need to show the fan base something sooner.

I doubt either McCann or Virtanen make the team next year, one more year of development in junior.

What is the plan?

Thought it was to retool or refresh on the fly (get younger, grittier, faster) while still making the playoffs.

I just look at the roster and wonder where these needs are being addressed. Sven will likely be in the lineup next season, but still need to address the grit. Only a few players like getting their nose dirty, we need more.

That's the goal, do you see that as the team stands today, and not rushing young players into the lineup? This team has been pushed around for years, nothing new there. Barring a timely deal(s) you can expect the same next season.

Canucks sold low on Garrisson. I didn't agree with that move at all.. felt Bieksa should have been gone before Garrison... he is a solid d man with size and a shot that literally damages players who block it (even if he could never get it through to the net)...

Bieksa would have gotten us the same return, maybe more last season. Now Bieksa isn't even worth a Turd...

It is not really a bad idea. Maybe a similar player that can play top6 if Lucic costs too much. Make some room on the ice. Make the team harder to play against, slowly change the identity. Don't think Lucic is going to happen, but we do need a new sheriff in town 'cause Dorsett can't do it all himself.

That would be ideal.

Although we need a young prospect to make the team to keep us all happy.
