Considering all of the scouting that Benning did/still does, he would be the man to do it. I'm sure that he knows most of these guys personally. I know that the Aquilinis aren't loved, but they aren't scared to spend money on the team. - CubanBuffet
Exactly. Scouts go to games together and talk all the time. Drop a hint that they could get a big raise and better weed if they work for us. |

I'd do it!
I'm sure a GM would only get way with it once or twice before his team appears on every NTC list. - EagleNuck
I'd do it too, but then I'm a d!ck. Even if you can only get away with it a few times, you would still make your team better.

I can't express how happy I'll be when Bieksa is gone. Just get what little value we can for him.
He is damaged mentally after how bad he got hit by everyone in the calgary series. - classic321
If they can get rid of one of dumb and dumber that's a huge step forward, get rid of both and replace them with average IQ players and I bet this team is way better defensively next year and you see better passing from the defense to forwards. |
|
|
|
But he sucks defensively and this was his first good year(during a contract year too).
So basically:
Garrison @4.6M >> Weber at @900K >> Me or you @500K >> Sbisa @ 3.6M - EagleNuck
Truthfully neither one would be on my team. Garrison was hired to be a sniper. In two years he struggled to hit the net.
Weber finally discovered to shoot the puck . So the fact that one of them is hired to be the shot I would hire the cheaper higher scorer.
My D would have a puck moving D , a shot, two safe reliable guys , a tough guy and stay at home Dman
An ideal D would look like Chicagos D

I agree Chicago's D is so well rounded.
But this is the last year for that... |

Not too many Keith and Seabrooks around. Duncan Keith is the closest thing these days to Lidstrom and Niedermeyer. The guy controls the game when he's on the ice. It's pretty amazing to watch. He's a Richard but a joy to watch. |

Concerning the weed, they can get it any time they roll through town, we don't exactly hide it, but a healthy raise should pique their interest. We've got the Sedins for class (and we're still one of the most hated teams in the league), we need some more ruthless AHoles, both on the ice and off. |

But it won two cups and so did LA. I would be happy with that type of D for 4 to 5 years.
I hope Pedan and Treyemko or whatever his name work out. I am cautious though.
Like I said earlier , I would be working the phones to trade for Dillon. I really don't like Edler , never have been a fan and only have half heartedly ever cared for Bieksa.
If I could trade Edler for a PMD I would immediately.
Yandle is a good PMD and trading with NYR might work out for everyone.
Dillon Yandle
Hamhuis Tanev
Pedan Sanguinetti
Treyemko *sp |

I actually like that defense providing that they could get Yandle re-signed. I'm not sure if I'd rely on that third D pairing, would prefer them to go out and sign or trade for a proven decent bottom D pairing player to give those 2 competition.

I don't like Edler either, he has a huge frame and has NEVER USED IT.
Not to mention he has worse hands than Tom Sestito with 2 broken wrists.
& Don't even get me started on his shot from the point which 99.9% of the time gets blocked with a breakaway going the other way.

I've always believed Tanev is the better d-man on that pairing and it's no coincidence that last year when he was paired with Hamhuis, that was the top pairing.
Edler has never been the same d-man offensively since his back surgery. |

Everyone hear this Benning interview?

I think I heard him say something about clearing some salary...

I like to see him a little physical, but get nervous when I see him really dishing or taking a big hit. Often causes invisiblity. That back of his. |

Yup. Smart move was to force Bieksa out even if the return was bad(couldn't be much worse than Vey),
It says a lot me that smart teams like STL and TB wanted Garrison. - EagleNuck
I remember calling the team 1040 and telling those rat weasels that Garrison was one of our best d men, behind hammer and maybe Edler. What a waste of a solid player at a reasonable cap hit. |

Chicago's d? Timonen, Roszival, all suck and maybe oduya too. They got three d men, Seabrook, Keith, hammerson... |

I doubt JB cares what he thinks. Got to have some tough skin because everyone's a GM. Honestly, I'm glad Van made the playoffs. it's certainly possible to rebuild on the fly. he accelerated the process with picking up more ready prospects. 4 first round picks over the past 2 years are coming along nicely. Bonino is a 3rd line center but used same as higgins because we don't have an actual 2nd line Center. Sadly I do think that Sbisa got a bit too much but in the end players salaries do go up every year. Whether they are better or not compared to someone else |

When the public knows what is going on it keeps ownership on their toes. Harold Ballard is proof that if you don't make a team accountable they do nothing.
Of course you can retool on the fly, if you don't have NTCs tying your hands |

Only edler, tanev, Sbisa on D after 2015-16 season. One or more years on the "core" of forwards. Some will need to go this season. |

Burrows Higgins have two years left. We are sitting in limbo waiting for these contracts to expire. |

Where's the hate for Edler? He had 7 giveaways leading to 6 goals on the Calgary series. Bieksa had 4, leading to 2 goals? Dumb Vancouver fans getting it wrong again does Bieksa need to go? Yes he's on the Decline. But Edler needs to be the first (frank)ing guy gone. Pure and simple he sucks and has since he was 23-24ish. Trading Edler would be addition through subtraction. |

One of Virtanen, Shinkaruk or Mccann will be on this team next year. Maybe even 2 of the three.
Hell who knows, Gaunce could slip in at a fourth line position. |
