Kind of worried about the next couple years. I'm starting to suspect they'll be last in the Pacific next year. I sure hope it doesn't take six years to get back to the playoffs.

Hardly...as much as I naturally hate the Flames...they're good. Round 1 was about confidence, this round is just a developmental lesson...they will, sadly, bounce back.

They can still bounce back and improve next year and still finish last in the Pacific. They got lucky this year that the Kings and Sharks had off years but they'll likely bounce back next year. The Oilers have been on the cusp for a last few years and have a huge influx of talent coming next year. The Coyotes will be a dangerous team if Smith remembers how to be an NHL goalie. Chances are everything doesn't go the Flames' way two years in a row.

no chance the Coyotes get much better....they traded Yandle and Marc Arcobello was their best forward in the last half. that team wont be better unless a raw rookie can carry them.

They weren't nearly as bad as they ended up last year. Smith was awful and cost them a ton of games. The Boedker injury also hurt them a lot. They have the best defenseman in the league and have a lot of young talent who could make the team. Don't forget the Flames' top line had a 20 and 21 year old this year. If Smith bounces back they'll be good, if he plays like he did last year, they'll be fighting for last again.

Really? With Giordano back and Ramo kicking Hiller's dizzy butt out of the crease you're worried about the future? Burke will add some size and you'll be just fine.

If only that was true, I'd feel better. Ramo is a UFA. Hiller and Ortio both have NHL contracts for next year. Ideally they trade Ortio but I kind of doubt that will happen.

I'm not terribly worried about the Flames' future but I think they're still at least a couple years away.

I say resign ramo and trade Hiller if you can. Ortio isn't going anywhere. In two years time it's him and gillies to battle it out for that numero uno spot.

Never Quit boys!! It's time to get back to playing flames hockey! Haven't seen it in the first 2 games but I seriously think we win the next 2 games. Ramo is going to play lights out hockey. We're going back to Anaheim for game 5 with the ducks on there heels. Mark my words! Go Flames Go!

Other than game 1 vs the Ducks I think the Flames have done pretty good. Look at the team Hartley has put on the ice, not a cup contender by no means. With young players, good drafting and some decent goalies I think the Flames look good for years to come. The Flames definitely need a few top 6 forwards with some size and scoring ability to back up Monys line, Bennett will take a few years to really be effective and Backlund needs some solid linemates. If they get swept by the Ducks they should still feel good about what they accomplished this season. Go Flames Go!!

Shouldn't you be drooling over McJesus on an Oilers thread? Or have you become a Flames fan and are just waiting to come out of the closet now that the Flames are in the playoffs? I wouldn't blame you since pretty much everyone else has given up on the Oilers.

Well ya man....who actually thinks they are legit cup contenders at the moment? Your comment gets worse and worse every time I read it.

Meh. I'll drool over McDavid when he plays an NHL game....and I'll never give up on the Oulers because I'm not a bandwagon jumper. And I will always be jealous and resentful of the Flames when they do better than Oilers. Hopefully I have cause to get over that again in my life time.

Quit your Effin whining.. Bennett's going to be in the fight for the Calder next year and the rest of the team is going to play even harder knowing what it takes to compete in the playoffs.

Get your Depressing attitude out of here.

See sometimes your drabble is on par...
I don't visit the Oil site much these days because once again the Oil are playoff contenders because of another draft pick. Allot of poop being flung about our team and how great things will be with McDavid... Hopefully the Oil gain some respect with McDavid but until he plays and until he has success at this level (which I'm sure he will) its the same crap as we've heard for years.

The Flames made the playoffs, moved onto the 2nd round and are learning what it takes to be contenders. The Oilers FINALLY took some steps to respectability with the management changes now we'll see if they can translate that to smart player moves and supplementing their roster. I know it pisses most of you guys off but the Flames have done it the right way and continue to do so.

Is he eligible with the first year of his contract burned???
I thought he was no longer considered a rookie and thus not eligible.

Doesn't piss me off. The Flames did it the right way. They rebuilt for 5 years without tanking. It's the idiots who say the Flames did it in 2 yrs, and give Burke and his patsy all the credit that make me shake my head. Feasted was quietly drafting and developing without trying to get lotto picks. I hope he finds NHL work, because the job he did in Calgary is under appreciated.......

....if it weren't for that damn ROR offer sheet that nobody else in the NHL world knew any better at the time anyway.

Have to play something like 40 games first...not sure the exact number, but he more than qualifies.

Whether he wins or not next year with McDavid, Eichel, Draisaitl, Reinhart, Nurse, also competing is another story.....but he has a chance.

No, once they play 25 NHL games they are no longer eligible for the Calder. I don't think that will be a problem for us

He will probably be in the running, & with Johnny this year & if he gets nominated next year just means we have some good young players grabbing the reins for the future & Im a happy guy!

You're not but some of your brethren on Hendo's blog bring out the pitchforks when any challenges that notion.

I think Feaster laid the foundation and Burke being hired took the hockey management out of Ken King's hands (thank god). Its the baby steps the Oil are taking...
