That's ludicrous. You can't build a team around Kessel and his fat contract of 8M. They were stupid to give that money but had no choice because he put up points. The guys a good goal scorer but in my books (and any smart GM's) a player making 7.5 he has to be a franchise player. If he isn't it's a bad deal.

And to the person that says the Canes should jump at the chance of getting Kessel for the 5th pick + Semin... that would be true if he's a 7M cap hit. It'll really make a big difference in a few years.

I agree, Kessel won't get three premium draft picks.. However, he will still get a roster player, prospect and a 1st rd pick.

It won't be the #5 pick though,
