It's really a combination of a lot of things, but nothing is more important in today's game than drafting well from the first round thru the seventh. - LeftCoaster
You would think it's not exactly rocket science to do thorough assessments, use all your scouting resources and due diligence and go from there. Perhaps scouts tend to over think things? or, as is always the case, there is seemingly that one flaw in a player that is a non-starter (i.e. size, skating etc).
It's telling that people on this board look to have a better grasp of the quality of various kids in the pipe-lines and undrafted classes. It really is a bit of a farce that the posters on these boards often have more insight and better overall analysis skills than these supposed professionals in the scouting/managerial departments.
In other words, we should all purchase a franchise and manage collectively |

You don't necessarily have to tank to be good... The Rangers have picked in the top 10 of the draft once in the past 10 years (10th overall in 2010), and yet they were in the finals last year and look to be a cup favorite this year as well.
They might be the exception to the rule, but tanking isn't aways necessary - nucks_94
New York will never have a problem signing top players to play there, just because it is the best city in the world to live in. |

STL Blues are a perfect example of why not to do a full rebuild. Team that on paper is fantastic, out in the first round every year. What happens when you have a team that you've invest 5-10 years of terrible hockey into, and at their peak they are no more successful than the Blues? Do you dismantle again and force the fans to endure another 5 years of crap hockey? - bezz44
St. Louis has some fire pistol forwards being smothered is a defensive system. |

Maybe sports networks should stop hiring has-been NHL goons and bimbos and start hiring men and women who understand the fans' point of view and are in sports journalism as a 1st choice, not because it's the best thing they can find

Things will change there as well, they have to sign 9 players with 13.4 mil and one of those is Tarasenko. |

The exact same statement could of been said about the Canucks between the Sedins and Bo Horvat. They had 2 top 10 picks in 13 years ( one of those being Luc Bourdon) and were able to make the finals once as well and were considered favorites too. |

Sure, but I doubt Boston does that straight up. Plus who knows if he'd re-sign here. Just wait until he hits UFA(risk is that he re-signs with someone before then though). - Nucker101
I fully do expect him to re-sign here next year. Benning likes him, and I do think LUcic likes Vancouver. |

Benning should be sending gift baskets to Stevie Y every single day so that when they run out of room for their high ceiling prospects he can call him and tell him all about why he NEEDS Luca Sbisa for a Cup run! - bezz44
You know it's things like picking Nicklas Jensen over Boone Jenner, sure Jensen had a higher skill level and perhaps ceiling, but he was a risky pick in that his knock has always been his inconsistency.
Boone on the other hand, if you read his scouting report, was a heart and soul guy who was offensively talented, played center, on the same (frank)in team, and he finished ahead of Jensen in point during their draft year.
It's not that I don't like Jensen, I do, but I'd much prefer a center who plays a heavier game and you know what you're getting. |

He would slot in nicely in Higgins' spot on the 2nd line. I'd make that trade. What you could end up with late in the season would be Lucic Horvat Kassian. That line is built for the playoffs - bezz44

I like Horvat as much as the next guy but I don't think I saw him pegged in the top 5 in a single mock draft or ranking that year. In most cases, I think he was projected to go 12-18 - bezz44
12-18 is out of line. As of right now only nuchuskin from Dallas has more points then him and wennberg has 5 less points in the same amount of games. |

I honestly think Vrbata is gone next year. WD comment about what happens in the room stays in the room. That makes me assume one day Vrbata asked Sedins to pass to someone else besides themselves( speculation) .
I now think he would be willing to waive. Anyone saying Eriksson for Vrbata GFY . Bring in a younger player. I mentioned this morning Pouliot . We need a tough skilled top 6 or a PMD. |

Listening on "that's hockey" saying that anahiems success is coming from there wingers playing a heavy game. We should now sell vey, Sven, vrbata and daniel |

Jensen and Gaunce were wasted draft picks. I don't care ex if they are still young , they are not skilled players and I don't see roster spots opening up for them |

Gaunce, jury isn't out yet. There I only like 4 players that play any sort of role on any team from that draft.
As for Jensen yeah he sucks. |

The roster's fine and most of the other teams are having a youth movement (US team has both Auston Matthews and Eichel )
I'm worried about Mike Smith and Martin Jones being our goalies tho...

Thats right. RNH was supposed to b that guy.....friggin jesus on skates hype then yapopov. Guys you can't even trade now. This kid will go straight to 1st line at 18 with all the hype. Although I do think theyll be better if mac T coaches again. Their fall to the basement came after he was fired. |
