Bill Meltzer just posted a great article on a scouting perspective if anyone cares to read. It's long but informative. |

Drinks on trays, spill and you have to start again. |

Idk how he turns out. I don't know how he would turn out playing this season in the NHL. He only went to utica for a conditioning stint. Development to me is what Gaunce and Shinkaruk are doing. If you can take an NHL roster spot that's not developing, that's developed. - manvanfan
Developing = getting better
Developed = finished getting better
Bo is still getting better therefore developing. |

So if he made the team as a 4th liner and never progressed he'd be fully developed in your eyes? Development occurs at every level. Your vision of development is too narrow |

It's not an argument that's why I put a question mark. |

So developing to you=playing hockey in the AHL? Boy I guess Cal O'Reilly is developing nicely down there. And what if the AHL team is an affiliate with no control exerted by its NHL team? If the AHL team spits out a solid NHL player does it mean that they were developed? And how do we know what is going on behind the scenes with training sessions, suggestions, visits from the organization, prospects camps, development camps. I don't see how playing hockey in the OHL or NHL is any different WRT development than playing in the AHL. If the prospect is in your system, you're responsible for ensuring their success. That can mean as little or as much as you want but at the end of the day what counts is success. Bo=developed under the Vancouver Canucks organization. Suggesting he wasn't implies that all players who go through the AHL level don't deserve credit for making the team. You're saying Bo got here by himself essentially and everyone else owes credit to the organization. I say that's bullpoop, the player makes it to the NHL and the organization is there to provide a means to hone their skills and give guidance |

You're getting into a different stage of development.
Two stages of development.
Stage 1 Drafted 18, plays 2 more years of CHL or more in college. Plays couple years in farm system. Developing a prospect. Makes NHL end of prospect development stage.
Stage 2 is in NHL develops nhl game.
Prospect development ends when a prospect makes the NHL. Otherwise all 18 year olds would make the NHL out of their draft year and would "develop" while playing in the NHL. |

Babcock on how to succeed

You would have to actually implement the Detroit model first. We haven't developed a draft pick since 2004? - manvanfan
I'm not against developing them-- I am saying that the draft record and development here speaks for itself.
With the situation in Utica things will get better.
MY POINT is this-- having guys season in the minors where most will plateau and languish after 2 years is not appealing to most prospects.
If this club is going to have low draft picks and look at signing NCAA players-- They are going to want to be assured that they are not going to be left to rot in the minors.
Presenting a 3-4 year plan to most prospects is not as appealing to a 2-3 year plan.
Johnny Hotnuts comes along and everybody wants to sign him-- What development plan do you think Johnny Hotnuts is going to sign up for? |

THIS. The D Core controls so much of the game. Obviously they DEFEND, but they break out, dictate the flow of the game and hem other teams in their own zone.
The best teams have their D-Core all over the score sheet and have high possession numbers.
Spend more time watching how much Duncan Keith brings to the Hawks.
Now if there were only a Duncan Keith tree where we could go pluck a couple apples. |
