The original article was proposing both Sedins straight up for Malkin, so he wouldn't be providing secondary scoring, he would be the guy. Malkin on the same team as the twins would be intriguing, but Malkin for the twins is a bad trade, IMO.

The more I read about what Benning has to say, and or listen to him in interviews, the more worried I get about the future direction of the club.

Yesterday WD metioned that Vrbata wasn't playing with the Sedins because of something that the media couldn't know. "Some things don't leave the dressing room" - I think Botch is just trying to stir the chamber pot.

I'd do it. Simply because he's easier to flip for younger assets down the road.

I can't believe there are people who still take that viewpoint. It's (frank)ing ridiculous
I don't think the ancestors of "good ole Canadian boys" were calling them "soft Swedes" when they were raiding their homes in Britain

I don't think 34 y/o Malkin is much easier to flip for younger assets than the Sedins.
If the Sedins are willing to waive then (frank) Malkin we should be going after top prospects

I don't care about his public speaking skills, however he better bring in the right players!
- VanHockeyGuy

Ya that wasn't what I meant, it's more about what he's saying than how he's saying it. I don't like what he's saying about building on the fly and trying to scour other teams prospect pools for deals.

I'll reserve judgment, but, this summer will tell me a lot about the direction Benning is going.

If you're hoping for the Sedins, or more than 3 roster players gone then I think you will be disappointed. That said I don't think that 1-3 roster spots turning over is such a bade trade-off

I wouldn't wait until he's 34 though. I'm thinking 31/32. The Sedins wouldn't bring much in return, they have full NTC's, a huge combined cap hit so there would only be 1 or 2 teams that would work as a trading partner. Malkin would likely have 6+ suitors.

What would you prefer he do? Straight up tank? Empty out our meagre prospect pool to try and find an impact player? Without considering the fact that most of what you hear in season ending pressers is total BS, the Canucks don't exactly have a lot of roster flexibility.

A. Wow

B. What it costs to have a star player in their prime now a days.

C. He fixes secondary scoring and the power play.

D. He takes heat off the sedins by himself.

E. He can if he wants be a game changer.

F. He would probably keep van in the playoff race next season.

- manvanfan

And which massive assets are you willing to part with to get this star player. You know the assets weve been finally able to stock pile through15 years of shytty drafting....

Getting a player like Malkin would do nothing but hinder these teams forward movement.

Its a stupid idea and pray it doesnt happen.

And once again............ He's Russian

I'm looking for a Bieksa trade to acquire a draft pick, to let Matthias and Richardson go to free agency, Higgins to be traded for a draft pick. For Benning to make some good selections.

That's the kind of change I'd like to see! Nothing drastic but moving in the direction I'd like to see.

Doesn't he have a NMC? And what's the point of having him for like 2-3 years. First off it's a loss of value IMO moving 2/3 of a first line for 1/3. Then you have to hope that he keeps his production up and doesn't continue his frequent bevy of injuries in addition to the hope that a team looking to contend with 10 mil to spare also has prospects/young players that we would want AND that Malkin would be willing to be traded to. Pass.

That's exactly my hope as well. From what I heard from Benning/Linden it sounds like the kind of summer they are planning to have. WD is the one who seems resistant to the idea of giving young guys a shot

As I stated above, make a few moves to rid ourselves of some veteran players while acquiring picks for them. If he doesn't do that, I'll be (frank)in pissed!!!

Have no issues with him using a second round pick on a 22 year old Baertschi, but I'd like to see him recoup that with a Bieksa trade. As an example.

Ideally I'd flip him right away and make it a 3-way trade but that's a long shot. I still think he has more trade value than both Sedins combined due to age, cap hits, etc.

I read that this morning, real headshaker for me?? He wants to be loyal to his vets and has no interest in kids being injected into the line-up....WTF Willie

That's what I would like to see as well, or at least I think that's the most realistic course. Nothing that management said yesterday makes me think that they aren't going to do that, or something similar.

But you're right. What they do this summer is going to tell us a lot.

I fully get they're not going to come out and tell the world their plan, but I just don't trust them at this point. Until I see at least two vets gone from the roster or a blockbuster, I'm skeptical.
