The price goes from 6th + clowe to 6th + Severson. Kessel is getting nowhere near that.

Gardiner and Kessel for #6 this year, Adam Larsson, Zajac and Ryan Clowe?

the #6 pick will probably be a bust and poop
- DougGilmour_93

Fair enough. We will give you the 6th overall plus one of our seconds for your 4th overall, who will hopefully not be a bust and/or poop.

I'd only really be interested in Kessel and even then its not the best time for us to trade the 6th overall. No one player is turning this team around so we need to get a couple good young forwards in our system before we move our 1st again.

Why did they have no business being there?
- rmdevil313

Simple. There were many more better teams in the east. They got some Luck and got hot at the right time.

Yeah but, he's not referring to a roster player...Rather his right nut.. Sometimes, it needs a "healthy scratch"

Think what he is trying to say is that a lot of teams can win 14 playoff games every year..

Kessel to New Jersey does make a fair bit of sense, and I do feel that the Devils have enough to get him. It would take the 6th pick and Damon Severson, or the 2016 pick, Severson and a prospect. Do I see Lou making either trade? Much more likely the second than the first.
- Falon

And for reasons like this, it makes no sense. The Toronto will want to much/undervalue the Devil's defensive prospects; and the Devils will not(/should not) be willing to trade either of our top prospects and the 6th pick for him.

As for me, I'm probably undervaluing him, but I would only trade both of our 2nds & either Merrill/Gelinas for him. He definitely has talent but he only has a couple more years left in his prime and snipers typically don't age well. Not to mention the fact that he is know to be lazy/not the most defensively reliable player; 2 qualities that wouldn't mesh with the Devil's system. So it would mean the Devils would be stuck with an $8million dollar player with an overpriced contract in the end.

What other 30 goal scorer is avaiable for New Jersey? The oilers trade is the one least likely and the New Jersey one is most likely to happen. If Lou wants scoring NOW, Kessel is his option. The 6th pick isnt putting up 30 goals this year. Probably not for 3 at least.

Which is precisely why the Devils should hold on to their picks/ prospects. Phil Kessel doesn't put this team back on track.

Camalleri Zajac Kessel
Seems legit to me. I'll take that over our leafs first line right now lol.

Everybody remembers that Cody Franson got the Leafs a 1st round pick and a prospect. Cody Franson. For a 1st. And a Prospect.

People thinking that Kessel wouldn't get the Leafs a high draft pick and a prospect are out of their minds.

Lou is about the only person who cares about that and hopefully he talks himself out of that situation. You guys can word it any way you want to try and sell kessel as this elite asset but we can do the same as to why he isn't. You might be right that this 6th pick might not pan out or at least won't be producing at a level of kessels for a few years but kessel will likely only be producing the way he is for a few more years before he declines. I also think it's pretty clear that if he can't scratch 40 goals on a team that was nothing but offense how is he going to do it in nj where defense is always first ? And his contract is atrocious for a 30 goal scorer. I'm not saying I wouldn't want kessel but you really wouldn't like what most of us would be ok parting with to obtain his services. On a side note not sure why people are trying to get us to take gardiner as if he would be an asset to us ? We have gelinas who is basically gardiner but 6'4 and shoots like weber.

One line isn't going to do it for us: Cammalleri- 27, Henrique- 16, Bernier -16. Those were our top 3 goal scorers this season.

They are very different scenarios. Kessel has 7 years left or 8 not sure when his contract kicked in at 8 per. Then factor in he has never hit forty goals and they way he acts, like what teams highest payed player doesn't have to speak to the media then when they do make asses out of themselves by being childish. He has no heart no defense game and went completely dry for the last twenty games. You will no doubt get a decent package but most times you trade a top ten player ( as leafs fans would argue he is ) you lose that trade. You forget the scraps kovalchuk went for ? I would take kovalchuk over kessel every day of the week and wouldn't even think twice about. Then factor in that ever gm in the league knows Phil isn't part of the leafs future plans and they will have to move him any ways and that = significantly less of a return then what you are asking for.

If the 6th overall was available for Kessel, pretty sure its not going to take more. Leaf fans would jump all over that!

but will the Leafs brass jump on it?

I think you need to throw in a 2016 1st.

I was thinking Matteau, Merrill or Gelinas, 2016 1st, 2015 2nd.

I'm trying to get close to the price paid for Kovalchuk.

Kovy was bought as a rental IMO or that's what is price was based around. But two of the players/pieces moved for kovy don't even play in the league anymore.
