It seems the CBC is not featuring me on their website, sadly.
Can anybody help me pull the content off my PVR and onto my computer? If you can help me capture it, I'll figure out a way to upload. I'd like to keep a copy for my own virtual memory chest, no matter how awkward it is to see oneself on television.
I'm pretty good with audio but notsomuch with video...

@darius, has that kind of plan worked for anyone?
I think what we do is hire a bunch of Nashville and Detroit scouts and try and find the next Lindstrom/Weber combination. Those guys weren't top ten picks or even in the first round...
Better drafting and player development would solve a lot of problems.

Amen. The hardest thing is that it is difficult to evaluate results because generally you're going to be waiting a few years

So good news for us is Nashville and St Louis finished with higher point totals so both will be picking after us.
So as of right now we are picking 19th.
If Detroit loses tomorrow we are picking 20th.
Pulling for Detroit tomorrow.

I think the way it works is that if a team that finished with fewer points than us makes the conference final we pick sooner. Impossible to say where we will pick until the conference finals

Im just going off of teams that that are eliminated with fewer points.
Winnipeg
Pittsburg
Ottawa
New York Islanders (Tie break lower row)
I really don't know how it works, but I am pretty sure those teams pick ahead of us.

If you go by last years standings the same thing applied.
If you move onto the next round of the playoffs regardless of points you pick after the teams that were eliminated.
Just checked again and we are locked in at 19 or 20 depending on the detoit game tomorrow. - classic321
"The final draft order is determined by the Stanley Cup playoffs. Whichever team wins the Stanley Cup is awarded the last (30th) overall pick of the draft while the runner up is awarded the 29th. The teams eliminated in the conference finals are awarded the 27th and 28th overall picks, with the 28th pick going to the team with the better regular season record.
The 26th to 15th spots in the draft are then filled, first by the remaining division winners, then by whichever teams are left. In both situations, the team with the better regular season record will pick later in the draft." http://www.hockeysfuture.com/draft_faq_1/

What a stupid ass rule that is.............
Calgary wins and they probably aren't getting past the next round so they pick before us.

Again, you have to realize that this is only year 1 of a 4 to 5 year plan, the stated goal at the beginning of the season was to make the playoffs. That was accomplished, so in that sense, the season can be seen as a success, especially when you consider that several teams that made the playoffs last year didn't, allowing us to take their spot (along with Calgary and Winnipeg). TL and JB have always said that their plan was to retool on the fly (mostly because the huge sweeping changes necessary to do a complete rebuild isn't possible due to the number of NTCs and the need to appease the season ticket base).
We don't need a Lidstrom/Weber/etc. generational-type D-man. We just need someone who can be relied upon to log 30+ minutes a game, play the PP and PK and be productive. And truthfully, even if you draft one it'll take them 5-7 years to get to that level and you need patience with them. If we lack anything, it's d-men who are physical and can handle the ferocious forechecking of teams like Calgary/LA/etc. That's a slightly more doable
I'm more concerned with the fact that we're entering another dead puck era where instead of clutch and grab hockey, it's now all about shot blocking and positioning and goaltenders who are 6'4"+ and can take up most of the net with their bulk. We don't have the team that's capable of breaking that down. Save for maybe Bo, possibly Kennins, Matthias and Kassian (when he feels like it) we don't have the players who are capable (or willing) to go to the net with the puck to score the types of goals that win playoff games.
It's why I'm advocating moving away from being a puck possession team especially since our faceoff percentage is so poor that it makes it hard for us to play that style. I'd like to see us play a style similar to LA who are good at playing in the offensive and neutral zone without the puck because they can retrieve it and win the battles along the boards. The Sedins (and Bo) are truthfully about the only players on the Canucks that can win board battles consistantly.
Let's be fair, I want to see progress each year, with MGT removing one or two core players either through attrition (via expiring contracts) or via trade (if they can convince those that have NTCs to waive). The goal next year should be to make the playoffs and get out of the first round.

No. Just NO. You don't need patience and 5-7 years of development with a generational type of D Man. You put them in and they play.
Doughty?
Keith?
Weber?
Eklbad? Did you watch him this year? Kid was fantastic.
