If we already have Bonino I don't see a point in trading him and Vey for a player who at best is as good as Bonino |

Hey folks,
I'm coming out from behind the curtain.
Just spoke to CBC News, which is going to do an on-camera segment with me later this afternoon. I'm not sure exactly when it will air - between periods of the Tampa Bay/Detroit game?
I'm heading down there at 5:00. Will try to update as I know more.
Wish me luck! |

Congrats Carol and thanks for the great coverage this season, it has been really nice to have a legit writer again for the Canucks on this site. |

I obviously think more of the bigger grittier Sutter than you guys do. I didn't see Bonino battling in front of the net too many games this year, but in the handful of games I watched the Pens I did notice Sutter doing that |

I don't mind the player but I don't think it's great asset mgmt to move two players for one, especially when those 2 player will make less than that one player.
I don't mind Bonino the player at his cap hit but I hate Bonino as the center piece of the Kesler deal and as the 2nd line C on this team.
I think Vey has some upside but I hate the acquisition of him and the inability to send him back to the minors.

Agree with both. I'd honestly rather have Jensen on the team. I think he is faster, better defensively, more equipped to hold his own with men, and has a better shot |

I think I'm the only one in the playoff pool that has a contingency of Minnesota players
Then again I also picked 5 Canucks |

Possibly, but the fact that he was waiver protected would of allowed the team to develop him where they wanted. I thought Vey had an okay season, especially when you consider he is a rookie. He needs to develop another gear and prove he is a top 6 in the NHL, I think most would agree he is not effective as a bottom 6 option. |

That's for sure. And I don't know that he's talented enough for a top 6 role. Screams tweener to me, but I have certainly been wrong before |

At this point in time I don't see Bonino as a second line player . Bo should be our second line centre.
I found Bonino all about the shot. Mostly a perimeter guy with a very decent shot. Him and Sutter are very similar except Sutter will battle in front for dirty goals.
Sutter also is much better on the dot .
Where would Vey fit on this roster next year?
I think we found out this year that tweaking the roster won't work. I think you will turn away a huge number of fans next year bringing back Higgins Matthias Burrows Bieksa Weber ,
This team needs to come back younger, faster tougher next year. You can sell that to a fan base, but you can't sell an aging team with a worse record.
I don't see Virtanen being sent back to Jr as we watch Chris Higgins take his spot . I think Sven will be given third line duties next year.
Fans are willing to watch new faces come in and try something different. Fans won't put up with the same old , same old.
I have absolutely no problem seeing 2 of 3 Hamhuis Bieksa or Edler being moved.
Calgary was a very beatable team and we didn't come close. We picked up 2 of the necessary 16 wins , to win the cup. That should show everyone that we are still miles from the finish |

I don't think anyone except the players are saying that this team is close. I just think that moving 2 players ( who I admit not to be a fan of) at a lower cap hit are good value to acquire Sutter, who isn't enough of an upgrade for me.
This has been my biggest complaint with Benning is not getting good value for his acquisitions.
This team does need change, but I see the D as the weakest link on the team. Depth scoring and timely goal-tending got this team to the playoffs. Without those things this team melted in the playoffs. And when it did show up the D let the team down.
Full credit for Calgary, they saw that the D was mistake prone when they were pressured and the Canucks couldn't figure out how to adjust.

My guess is that the Calgary players get called for boarding and charging and the Anh PP eats them alive.....something that the Nucks couldn't do.
I don't have a problem with the push back that the nucks had in the series, but their inability to capitalize on opportunities. |
