There should be lots of deals to be made this offseason. Between teams trying to pull out of their tank jobs and teams that failed to meet expectations, there should be lots of activity. Combine that with a less then stellar free agent class and Gms should have blisters on their fingers by the end of summer from working the phones so hard.

No you're right we should just fire Lidster
- A_SteamingLombardi

I never said we should not make any trades. I said the guys not doing his job as D coach. Hes had all year to make corrections.

How many coaches would accept the D as its been all year without some real hard practices? Cant think of 1.....except apparently ours. Unacceptable

I think it was more D issue than goaltending. At least with lack he was often able to bail out the D
- SMBDragon

Neither Lack nor Miller bailed out the D. If the D were overwhelmed, we'd get what was coming. Our best D (at least in the playoffs) was when the Sedins were on the ice because the shots against were minimized.

Watch the highlights of MTL-OTT tonight for evidence of a goalie bailing out the D.

I agree w alot of that. Possession is a great defense. Thats why I hate the dump and chase crap AV had them doing when he was here. Detroit is excellent at possession.

No there were examples of the D falling apart and would be in the n et if not for lacks excellent positioning.

Yes ill watch highlights of montreal tonight. SouNds like a show!

I think Miller was the most questionable of all. How much did he give us? if you are a veteran goalie (getting paid fairly big coin) you NEED to steal a game for your team, even in the regular season. How many times did that happen? let alone in the biggest game of the year where we absolutely needed him to do so
- Zogg

The players asked for that, Benning went out and got what they wanted. I think it helped their confidence level.

Further to that, neither was great but Miller IMO is better than Lack. As for the past two games, Miller is not 100% but he battled.

Not quite sure how players can influence management to bring someone in. I think if that was the case, we'd have complete mayhem on our hands. Management does what it thinks will make the team better, if that's what the team wants then great, but the amount of influence players have on management is pretty much zilch (except for very rare circumstances)

Sorry, I just think Miller was a huge mistake and that money could have been well spent elsewhere (was there that much difference between him and Lack? at least statistically?). I understand that he did his best but his best has not been good enough for quite some time now. I can't think of any defining moment (other than perhaps game 4) that he gave us. I'm sure he tried to battle through but that's just not good enough at this stage of the game, and when he is on the books for $6 million dollars. Not a sound investment and I'm not sure how it helped player's confidence (especially given he was out for most of the second half of the year, when games are that much more important)

And when it really mattered (last night) he didn't make any difference whatsoever.

Cant blame a guy for being injured.

But it obviously helped lack along. He did very well down that stretch.

Remember everyone that markstrom has I dicated going back to sweden if he isnt getting nhl playing time. I think he needs to be lacks backup and get more experience. His salary suggestsnhl time as well

Hmm, I find that a little hard to believe, but will give the benefit of the doubt. I don't think too many managers use the advice of their players (again, except in certain unusual circumstances) to assemble their line-up. But fair enough. I don't think the players wanted Miller specifically, but that of a veteran back-up which could of easily been handled for 1/5th of the salary.

What I like about this forum is for the most part there are some very hockey savvy people here. I salute you Carol is a good blogger, a little too politically correct for me but nevertheless a good writer. Maybe a dirty sexy avatar may change that, or the odd off color opinion. Just kidding...

Seriously, what did happen to him?

Is he in the middle of finals or was there some epic meltdown recently that I missed?

I'm seeing a disturbing trend of our hockey pool commissioners going AWOL.
