Hey you guys should be happy with the improvements you've made. You now have as many playoff wins as the Leafs have in the last 4 years. |

This coming from a team with a rebuild within a rebuild (TOR). Difference is with VAN
a) There were no expectations for the playoff advancement
b) The team showed improvement from the previous season
c) Why do I need to justify to a Leaf fan? |

It's not an improvement to get bounced in the first round. Last year was an anomaly. I don't even count it. Same team, same problem. Old, slow got beat by youth and speed. |

My dream team for next season has both youth and speed.
Armchair GM powers activate.
Sedin Sedin Vrbata
Tlusty Horvat Kassian
Baerstchi Bonino Hansen
Jensen Gaunce Grenier
Edler Tanev
Hamhuis Green
Sbisa Corrado
Lack
Miller
It's time to usher in the 2011 draft class, and let them work on their NHL games. |

Botch in the Province this morning.
"A. Trade 3 for a second and a prospect. (Douglas Murray was 33, washed, on an expiring and and he went for two seconds at the 2013 deadline so I believe this is possible). Trade 20 for a second. Trade the rights to 27. Trade 6 for a second.
I’d think about trading 14 or 36, but you’re not replacing them and there’s no one really ready to play that kind of game in the organization.
I’d listen on Miller, but free agency looks bleak so not like you can spend the money. Probably better to share the workload next year before officially passing the torch from Miller to Lack.
Plan to give Virtanen, Shinkaruk and Baertschi every chance to make the team.
B. Or go with the PA Plan. Trade Bieksa, Lack, Horvat, Kassian, Tanev and get Hanzal and get Chris Stewart." |

They restocked the cupboards that Gillis emptied which is huge. The team is handcuffed with NTC's so the "old and slow" isn't going away anytime soon. The real problem is Defence which is a mess. Bieksa suggested a team with playoff experience "had an edge" over a young team prior to game 6, wrong. I question the character or the room with all the new faces mixing with the old dogs, secondly coaching, Hartley is a high end coach who knows how to get the best from what he has. The Canucks are a middle of the road team who has picked in the middle to late seeding at the draft for over a decade. Unlike the Leaf's, Oilers etc, who are always picking top 5 and not providing results. I would be more concerned with that! |

The great thing about this playoff series, the coming of age of Bo Horvat!! Kid sees what it's like to play in the show and he decided he was gonna be "the guy", too bad WD didn't give him more opportunities with better wingers. Oh wait, we don't have any? That experience is invaluable to him. |

The leafs have picked top 5 only twice in the past 10 years. And both were the 5th overall picks. They are finally doing it right by doing a good rebuild. Unlike the Canucks who think they can suck for a year then be good for the next 10...the Cancucks are in for a lengthy rebuild if they want to be good again.
As for the Oilers...all their top 5 picks are under 21...so give them some time. Plus they just got Mcdavid so they should be more then fine for the next 10 years. |

It really depends how you look at it; from the surface yes the core is the same, however, in ten months Benning brought in a bunch of new players…Vrbata, Miller, Baertschi, Dorsett, Vey, Sbisa, Clendening and McMillian.
He also drafted McCann, Virtanen and the best ranked goalie prospect (2014 draft) in the world in Demko. Give it time, the summer is long. Horvat had a coming out party, the kid is good, that in its self is a huge step forward to have a kid like that in your fold. |

I think you can turn it around much quicker than a ten year plan, it takes as long as it takes but look at what the Flames have done in a relatively short period. Yes they've missed the playoffs for a long time but they've really only recently drafted Monahan (6th overall) Bennett (4th overall) Brodie (4th round) and Gaudreau (4th round) - the rest is some good trades and good UFA signings. |

Jim Benning supposedly is a talent guru, keep on injecting youth into the line-up, as he has been and let the cards fall where they may. As the NTC's expire hopefully some of these new guys can fill the role, if not it’s our turn to get top 5 picks for a while. Parody. |

Benning has been a disaster. The only good thing he has done is pick up Vrbata.
He should have waited out Kesler; he could have got much more in March. Sure he was a cancer in the room but who cares.
Next mistake. He should have traded Sbisa, Dorsett and Tanev instead of extending them.
Miller was a huge mistake. his biggest of all.
Now we are screwed for 5 years. You never get anywhere by overpaying mediocre players. |

can only laugh at posts like this!! Yes he shoulda gave the Pens a box of candy and landed Crosby and Malkin, he has so much to work with from the Gillis years its incredible he couldn't have done better in the ten months he's been here lol. |

It's going to take some time for Benning to turn the roster over, I know people want everything NOW, but it's just unrealistic. He was left with a huge generation gap, as Booner likes to call it, give him some time to right the ship. Draft and develop while trying to remain competitive. |

Its been the character guys that have made the difference, something the Oilers have yet to figure out... You have a good one in Bo and honestly the Sedin's still cause fits. Its figuring out the intangibles. Wideman amd Russell were lights out for us and even Engellend stepped up when Gio went down. Ferland was up and down all year but found his niche. Hartley said its the best group of athletes he's ever worked with and the best group of people. The dressing room is tight...
Bo is a f'n stud and you guys have a few good pieces. You are where the Flames were when Iggy was Dealt. Prepare for some tough times but in the end it'll be worth if management does their job... Just don't Oiler it... |

Also the Canucks are a great regular season team. We only suck in the playoff's, the Leaf's however do not make the playoff's so they just stink it up for the regular season and inundate TSN with useless bull shyte how change is coming! |

A lot of holes to fill. Whoever isn't listed should be traded.
Jensen, Corrado, and Grenier should be afforded a real shot to make the team.
We're not going to win with Bieksa, Higgins, Miller, Sbisa cause they take up more capspace than they're worth. - Gullzy
As much trouble as Kassian has been this year I doubt we ever see him play again for Canucks .

I think the Nucks are much further ahead of when you guys traded Iginla, because we've already got four first round picks in the past two years, including a 9th overall and a 6th overall. IMO the difference is we had vets which allowed us to keep those kids in a development mode.
The thing that's handcuffing the team is the NTC's handed out by Mike Gillis, you guys don't have to deal with those. I do agree your depth players have been very good and your defence is miles ahead of ours at this point. |
