Cost to move down would be way too much for the return. Keep 4th and focus any other deals on obtaining a couple more 1st round picks. The only trade down I would ever consider was if there was a deal to be had with Edmonton, but chances of that are pretty much between 0 and -100.

??? its like you answered the question about moving up, not down. I am saying they should move down and aquire more first round picks and a prospect. The Jets and Flyers both have 2 first round picks and both would probably love to trade them to the leafs for the 4th over all. The leafs could ask for players like Petan or Laughton on top of the 2 first rounders from the Jets or Flyers and move down.

so Toronto ends up with 3 first round picks plus a prospect instead of two first round picks

what about suter, trouba, jones...........all highly touted, picked in the top 10, and absolute STUDS

well Suter was 20 years ago and i do love Trouba and Jones but not sure you can put them in the same sentence with Suter just yet.

i'm not suggesting kessel was the problem..........just replying to him saying that you draft marner and build around him.

my point was that, like kessel, i don't think marner is the type of player you build a team around.

build around one player seems like a bit of cliché to me.

I think you need depth at all positions - say 1-2 top centers, 2-3 top wingers, 2-3 top d-men and a average to great goalie to ice a consistent contender for the cup.

if the leafs deem marner to be the bpa, then take him. he fills one of those holes.

To add to that, Marner is a Markham boy, born and raised on the Leafs, he even wears 93. Talent and skill aside, I think this kid could have the heart and passion this team has not seen (and desperately needs) since Clarke.

If Strome is gone, I'd be banking on this guy over Hanifin.

i've seen strome play ALOT more than marner, and as much as strome seems like the perfect fit for TO, there's something about him that's been bugging me and i have the feeling marner turns out better.

Strome has all the tools but plays like he's marner's size, and marner plays fearless. You can't force a pick (by that i mean, yeah we need a centre and that is strome, but if marner turns out better, who cares if he's a winger).

I've been pro strome and flip flopped a bit but i will finally say that it should be

Hanafin, marner, then strome. Damnit

After reading a few articles, I am kind of hoping aboard the Marner train. Not that I would select him over Strome, but he would defintiely be my next target over Hanifin if Strome is taken. I think its a win-win for Toronto with either kid (Strome/Marner).

No doubt Hanifin is going to be a great defence man, but lets face it, Toronto needs that drafted, franchise potential, centre piece to build around, and a star forward is way more attractive to the fans over a d-man. Its like comparing the bass player to the lead singer in a band, yup he's important, but which one really has the star power to the fans

So, my vote is take Marner if Strome is gone, build the team around this kid. Make a deal with Kessel ++ for another early 11-15 pick, possibly Phaneuf ++ for another 16-20 pick, and have Nashville's pick.

I'd be a happy happy happy camper if that could be done.

Phaneuf + Nashville pick to Philly for #7 + Le cavalier. Add or subtract whatever smaller pieces you need to. Think Philly would bite???
