It's embarrassing more than anything that the team with the top 2 offensive players in the world is 2-9 against a team that has a terrible defenseman like Girardi match up for 25 minutes a night against their two headed monster. |

All true but we cant score against anyone these days, even pre-Letang injury. So its not just the Rags shutting the Pens down, its pretty much everyone. Hell, Buffalo the last game, nothing to play for, gave us fits.
Pens just aint good enough presently constructed, period. No need to dissect it further than that.
Anyone who says Girardi is overrated is an idiot. Solid player. Major nards too. |

And that is another opinion that is hardly novel, even among Rangers fans. Or at least the SBN Rags fans on BSB. Just some data comparison:
Girardi relative ES SF% is -4.07 and relative ES GF% is -6.38. That's not a good dman and both are the worst on the team out of the regular dmen. McDonagh, his most common playing partner, is -1.83 and +.68 respectively so it isn't just playing against tough competition/situations. He isn't effective in his role. Which was readily apparent to any non-Rags fan last SC finals as well where he was easily the worst regular dman on the ice. - jfkst1
Here comes the stats. Watch the games jerkey! Girardi saved a goal at the end of the game and blocked a shot as well. Not all that important in its self, but he does it on a game to game basis, AND he plays almost every game every season. The reason McDonagh can do what HE does is b/c he knows Girardi is there to back up his offensive rushes. I admit that he looked bad after that LA kings turnover and other plays after that, but he is more than making up for it now. I can look at any player in the league and say they suck for a period of time in a season. The PENS would shoot a load if they could get a hold of Girardi for their Defensive corp. |

Girardi hasn't been shutting down anyone this postseason. 1st line for Pittsburgh has been effective. No other line has been, which is the problem. And it's not like the Pens were scoring much entering the series. But you know, if you don't like hearing facts, you could just go back to your board.

Or isn't innumerate. I'd be curious to see what a GM like Bowman would say about Girardi. |

We had Girardi. His name was Brooks Orpik. He was great for a time. I'm glad we moved on from him. A few years ago the "is Orpik still good" debate broke out and Pens fans were pretty split. By last year pretty much everyone was done with him. You will soon have that moment as well with Girardi. Just wait a season or two. |

You are giving Stats....not facts. Facts are what a player brings to HIS team....HMMM Pens first line SHOULD be effective Hornvuist/Crosby/Kunitz (Great line). THat doesn't mean Girardi isn't playing good. |

Girardi should have been MVP for the SC finals last year...for the LA Kings.

Also, longevity is a HUGE part of a players game. Girardi can be counted on to put up big minutes every game and play well....not amazing...but well. Pens are seeing that now. If your Dman can't play in the games then they aren't helping. Ex. main reason why #99 is considered "better" than #66 is b/c #66 couldn't stay healthy (No disrespect to Mario's cancer battle)

Yeah, now. As in right now this very instant. Our line up when healthy looks something like
Letang-Martin
Ehrhoff-Maatta
Cole-Lovejoy/Pouliot/Scuderi
Our defense would have been fine. We wouldn't be creaming our pants for any extra defensemen no matter how good they are. Moving forward I would be happy to have McDonogh due to his great contract or Klein because he's solid and cheap, but Yandle is for the birds and I don't think Staal will be very good for much longer. I take offense to you suggesting we would want Hunwick. |

Agreed, but they aren't the only factor. If you are objective, you can see that Girardi a good/serviceable DMan. Amazing... NO, but definitely a dependable one |

Letang. is the only Dman that is better than any NYR Dman. ONe could also say that Yandle (at times) is just as talented and Letang.

If you're gonna come on here and be a troll, at least be smart about it. We can use about any D man right now this instant. I don't fault Rutherford for not foreseeing injuries to three of our top four defensemen plus an injury to our promising rookie dinamo on our back end. I fault him for a lot of things, but not for that.
Just because we had bad luck with health that does not mean I wish we had Orpik moving forward. Guy is gassed and is being payed 5.5 mil. (frank)ing 5.5. mil! You're a moron if you want that contract in your books long term. In a year or two he will be Rob Scuderi on steroids. I'm not even upset we didn't retain Niskanen with the amount of money he got. He'd be more use to us than Letang, Pouliot, or Ehrhoff are right now, but moving forward it'd be detrimental. |

You "take offense" that you would want Hunwick? Sometimes the best you can say about a dman is that you "don't notice" him. You sure cant say that about your dman....that's for sure. Kreider???? Hayes???? Brassard??? where are youuuu? Oh yah ...I left you alone , again... GOAL!!!!! |

Im not being a "troll". I understand injuries, but Besides one or two of your Dman Healthy or not compare to most playoff teams DMen. Injuries are definitely a big factor in your DMAn corp. situation, but so is drafting, trades and signings....i.e. Scuderi and Lovejoy.. Just being honest . I will stop and move on. Good luck!

I'd take Martin over any Rangers D man besides McD. Ehrhoff is about a wash with Staal, but they bring different games when healthy. Looking at the construction of our team, I'd probably want Staal on it more than Hoff since we're missing a big bodied guy that can clear the front of the net. Maatta will be better than everyone in a few years. Klein is superior to everyone on our bottom pairing/alternates, but he's not better than Hoff or Maatta. Yandle is overrated because he looks pretty on the power play, which he hasn't even been doing for you guys. |

I can entertain the argument that McDonagh is Letang's equivalent or superior, but claiming Yandle is laughable. The only thing he does better than Letang is on the PP. And even that hasn't been very effective with NYR. |

Hunwick and Yandle have been atrocious for you guys all series! You can argue that they're better than the scrubs we've been putting out, but that's like being the tallest midget. Congrats, your bottom pairing is better than our bottom pairing that is full of AHLers. Is this something you want to brag about? Hunwick would have no place in our healthy lineup, just like he has no place in yours when Klein can go.
As for the bit about trades and signings: yeah. What's your point? That's a whole other issue entirely, and one which I believe everyone on the board will agree with you. The Penguins have been atrocious at drafting and have given out stupid contracts. This is just fact. I'm just happy they avoided giving out stupid contracts to Orpik and Niskanen.
Jesus Christ, he might go out of his way to poke the bear at us sometimes, but at least Ranger Danger can talk hockey when he feels like it when he comes over here... |

I agree for the most part, but Yandle is more than PP man. Just look at that play/pass to Hags.(please don't start talking penalty..lol)
Yandlel 80games 52 pts.
Letang 70 games 54pts.
Most of Yandles pts came from worst team in league. He's got faults, but I wouldn't say overrated. Especially, when he get only 5mil. (only 2.5mill against NYR)
