Until I get a good explanation, I'm blaming Lapierre for the GWG. He lets his man, Hagelin, get to the puck and then he quits on the play for some inexplicable reason. |

they better make some changes, because it sure is getting old...year in and out same excuses, injuries, spaling should be more like a 1Million$ guy, scuderi should be at 3 at most, and I will be fine saying good bye to martin
but yea, not surprising how we are where we are right now |

Yeah, let's trade/not sign the dead weight this off season. That'll free up a lot of cap space to we can sign Joel Ward for 3+ a year.
The upcoming UFA's are a joke, we have holes to fill out throughout our lineup. Not a chance they all get filled. We have zero assets to deal without further destroying our farm system.
We are in a tough space, either stay the course with minimal moves and pray, or move Malkin for pieces to fill the lineup. When Malkin/Crosby aren't scoring, who's gonna pick it up? Sutter? Yeah right. I would much rather have 2 top 6 guys and a third liner than a top player when you already have another top player. Those three players you can have in return have a 3x more chance to score. And when one is injured, the other two aren't. There's not just 9.5mil sitting on the shelf or floating around the ice.
I know everyone would hate to do it, but it has to be time. No picks, bare offensive prospects, terrible UFA list, no assets to trade.
Congrats Shero, thank you for ruining this team.

Ditto, if we dont move a big name we will have little to nothing to work with, sure we may have some cap space, but we will be picking from the bottom of the barrel with the other 20 teams that need good players

Are you saying Pitt could get 2 top 6 players and a 3rd line Center for Malkin? If so what team has those assets to move ?

Scuds shouldn't be more than $1.3m at most. Only a moron like Shero would sign him to that contract after the season he had in LA. |

Yup, and those bottom of the barrel guys will be overpaid for a longer term than they should be. Lots of Scuderis to choose from this year. |

I know no GM makes only good moves, but IOT compete effectively, the team needs GMs to make a lot more positive moves than negative ones and Shero didn't provide that. Not sure Rutherford is capable of doing that either. Because while he might be an improvement, like Ryan Wilson pointed out, he's also making a number of obvious mistakes. |

What's amazing is he felt the reason Letang was so mistake prone was because he needed a partner like Scuds. When in fact it was his BFF coach with a terrible system.
Think about that. |

I know we wont do this, but its still fun, would anyone do malkin for jordan staal and justin faulk? maybe receive an additional low pick? I guess I doubt carolina does that though...plus im sure geno has no interest in going there... |

I'm thinking Crosby should be the centerpiece of a major rebuild. He's done his job and won you a cup, made the Pens probably the most consistently successful team in the East since he's been there. Now your problem lies in having no youth that can play and contribute well enough to relieve the cap, and no real good UFA's to go after, and your stuck with a lot of middle depth players that don't produce. Malkin when healthy can still put up over a ppg. Most teams don't even have that, much less need 2 players that do that. You should trade with Edmonton. Crosby could get you 2-3 top 6 guys plus 2-3 prospects and picks. EDM is stacked with youth and prospects and picks. Yakupov, Eberle, Hall, any one of those guys would be a great addition and infusion of youth. Edmonton would also love the idea of having Crosby mentor McDavid, it would be like having Gretzky teaching Lemieux...
Crosby, through all the criticism he gets is still the best all around player in the league, but I think its time not only for a roster blow up, but a culture change. |

Ridiculous. I wonder how good the Rags would be this year playing without 3 of their top 4 D? Throw in Pouliot and that would be 4 of 6. Looking beyond these facts is futile. Nobody has that kind of depth on defense.

Our defense is fine. The Rags aren't that good of a team. Our problem is offense. Even when healthy we have scored 1-2 goals a game going back months. |

That is something people forget. Even when Letang was in there ... Ehrhoff and Pouliott, we couldn't score.
As for the Rags and I made mention of this last night. They have won three 2-1 games; fought for their life with a non talented, injured, Pittsburgh team that held on for dear life to get into the play-offs (had to beat Buffalo to get in on the last day). This doesn't bode well at all for them moving forward. Good thing they are playing Pittsburgh this series and not someone else ... otherwise, they would be out. |

Which is why the emphasis this offseason, for once, should be on improving the forward lineup. Both the top 6 and depth forwards.

I honestly believe it comes down to size. It's a smallish team. I've been saying it for 3 years now. The NHL has morphed from speed and skill to size and power.
Not saying there are players that couldn't use some additional strength training, but it can be tough to add bulk and strength to somebody with Brandon Sutters body type. |

The Rags are a finesse team. They like open hockey. That doesn't usually work well in the postseason. I don't expect them beating the winner of the Isles/Caps series. |

Joel Ward is the best UFA. He will make more than 3 for long term to be a depth guy. There is nothing available this offseason. We have nothing to trade to fill our holes without creating more. Sutter/Kunitz won't get us anything either so don't say them. That will just create more holes. |

And, how do you go about doing that?
The forward pool for free agency sucks. Guys like Frolik and Soderberg will be going for top dollar and there isn't a given we get either one. The rest of the pool is old and sucks. We don't have trade options to bring in talent that helps immediately, unless ...
add int he fact we only have maybe one or two possible options on the farm, I don't like the odds. |
