we would have to give up a pile of assets to get him, then no guarantee his is even gonna stay here. I dont think the leafs are in a position to be trading for pending UFA's

Depends on the cut-off age we're looking at (<25) and what COL is looking in return and/or how desperate they are.

Still, I think it's a longshot, but that's the kind of center we need to be looking for in the NAS pick and/or later rounds or whatever we can land pick-wise before the draft.

Looking around the league, there's a couple of teams spoiled for stud 1Cs (PIT, DET, DAL, LA, etc.) a few more with star 1Cs (TB, CHI, etc.) and an equal amount or more with no real stud centers, just solid lines/systems/team games.

We'll probably fall in the latter half, looking to just ice a quality competitive team of players that want to play together in Toronto, in a team-first system.

If he hits UFA, which I think he will, I wouldnt mind the leafs taking a run at him.
I just dont think we can give up assets like top prospects or 1st rd picks to get a deal done.

If it is gonna be something like Phaneuf with salary retained why not. Kadri +Nash 1st + Percy, hell no

Colin, I hate to be an a** but, I'm sorry, you are one of the least enjoyable sports bloggers on this site. Your blog themes rarely change, and you overuse certain grammatical phrases and words like "I digress", "However", "What say you", etc. etc.

You also respond to nearly every person who comments on your thread, which shows that you care too much about what others think. Write from the heart, man, and stop with the reiteration of ideas that have already been beaten to death by both you and other bloggers. Give the reader a fresh perspective and something to think about.

Mike Augello is a phenomenal sports writer who does all of the above. Just some pointers, man.

Thanks for the pointers, I think? Mike has a very different writing style than I do, let's call it TSN type writing. I like to offer opinion based blogs over a journalistic style. Some like it, others don't...ultimately I do this in my spare time as a hobby...one that provides extra beer money, might I add.

When it comes to the Leafs, though...just about any idea has been written or discussed...and given that I only write for Toronto on a part-time basis, it's tough to keep the stories fresh, so I do try and offer a different spin.

I don't think you were supposed to respond to his post...based on his advice of course.

I would like to trade the 4th pick for Dylan Strome and trade the 22-25 pick for Oliver Kylington.

The way Stamkos has looked since his broken leg and St.Louis left, maybe he will hit UFA status.
