Would you give up one of the early seconds to move up a spot or two to draft Strome?
- Pete V

Absolutely. I just don't know if that will be enough.

I was thinking some like 6th, Boucher, Gelinas for 3rd and Hanzal. If we had to throw in a second, I would prefer next years because maybe we could get one of Edm's or Win's 1st with the two 2nds.

I wouldn't trade the 2nds until draft day to see who is at the spot of one of the picks. I would love to get Kocency with that second 1st.

Honestly, you never know with the draft sometimes, outside of the clear generational guys like McDavid. The year that the Rangers missed and took McIlrath, I was all about the Rangers trying to move up a few picks to draft Fowler, and then he started dropping, and then the Rangers pick came up, and then the Rangers didn't draft him. I think Strome is obviously a very, very good player, but there are also some things that have been said about him that you don't know whether will cause a big slide -- i.e., whether he's physical enough, whether he benefits from McDavid, etc.

I really don't think he'll be there at 6, but I see Hanofin going three, and if the Leafs prefer Marner, then that is only one pick to slide.

I don't see Strome passing Toronto.

Probably not, but they may have a Strome/Marner decision to make. If were the Yotes, I would draft one of the forwards rather than Hanofin, leaving the other forward for Toronto, and then Hanofin would be available at five. Recent trends have seen some of the defenders dropping a little in favor of high end forwards.

Hmm... we'd be trying from Strome, and in my opinion i think he'll be there at 4. A top defensive pairing of Hanifin-OEL for the next 10 years is something to marvel at.

While, that would be a great pairing, I don't know what top center ARI has, I know Domi, but other than that, who could be the 2nd line guy. Hanzal?

It wouldn't be a bad thing, but if there's a year to get a first line center for the next 10-15 years, than I think this is the year.

All it would take for one of Strome, Marner or Hanofin to drop to the Devils is somebody to shoot up the board over the next several weeks, kind of like what Ryan Johanssen did during his draft year. The draft rarely ever goes according to plans, I would be willing to bet that one of those guys would be available at 6.

I just hope we keep our pick, its about damn time we pick a skilled forward in a draft and not trade it or do something dumb with it, love schneids . Rantanen/Barz/Marner/Provorov and i'm very happy.
Rantanen is being compared to Perry
Barz is a poor mans Datsyuk
Marner is being compared to Kane
Provorov is compared to OEL.

Hey Todd, could you list a quick top 10 in your opinion?

Right now I think mine goes:

1. McDavid
2. Eichel
3. Strome
4. Hanifin
5. Marner
6. Werenski
7. Crouse
8. Barzal
9. Provorov
10. Rantanen

Don't come after me with pitchforks about the 6th pick, guys. Just my thoughts, and I think Werenski goes earlier than most.

I'll be pissed of he goes at six but this is just the order of top prospects correct ?

Hey Todd, how about some of your ideas for our second round picks. Maybe a few players you think will be available at either pick. You couldn't be more right in saying there are a lot of posts to fill over the next few months

No, that's my early mock. Crouse wouldn't be in my top 10.

Don't take it too seriously, it'll change daily until the draft.

Todd, How does Dylan Strome compare to his brother Ryan? Will Dylan be the better player?

Also is Hanifin a sure top two defender or a 3-4 defender..

Thanks

To me there seems to be a notable group at 3-5 and a drop after. You are right that anything can happen and all it takes is one team picking a player off the board (or rising before the end of the year) to change things.
