Is there any huge 3-4 year project dmen projected to go in the first round?
Perhaps a Brandon Carlo. He will probably be higher on the Flyers draft board than Provorov.
Besides when is the last time the Flyers drafted a Russian in the first round? - PLindbergh31
Never. But they did draft Zubrus who is from Lithuania, which I believe was a former Soviet state. |

I think Thomas Chabot is that guy this year. He's only 6'2 right now, though. - JAKEw1234
6'2" is a lilliputian. |

Yep, agreed. The only thing I didn't like was the Hartnell trade.. Not that he traded him, but that he took Umberger back. I mean, even if they traded Hartnell for a late round pick straight up, it would have been better. I just don't understand that the best deal they could have gotten for him was taking Umberger back. There HAD to have been more interest with lesser consequences...
But I digress...
Overall though, I like where Hextall is going with the organization. - WarriorHockey21
I don't know.
I understand the reason for the trade because of looking to the future. The problem is Hartnell had a NTC. So that limits you. Also I think it goes to Hartnells value to that they had to take back a player and not just picks. I think if there was any deal to be made with just getting picks they would have made it. And maybe there were but Hartnell didn't want to go there.
I think hextall thought he was getting two years cut off the contract and Umberger would be a solid 3rd line role player. This season that didn't work. But maybe next he fills a role on the 3rd or 4th line.
The one thing I do see though is even if Umberger isn't scoring he can still contribute defensively. Once Hartnell stps scoring he really isn't useful as his defense is supbar and he is prone to the bad penalties.

Hextall isn't the old regime. If Provorov is there at 7 and the Flyers have him as the BPA I am sure they will take him. |

I don't think anyone expected Umberger to be as bad as he was. I thought maybe 15G/15A with a chance to chip in on the 2nd PP unit and a little PK time. |

Lithuania was independent in 1990. Was not part of Russia at the time Zubrus was drafted. |

That's what I was thinking.
I mean I am ok with him coming back Healthy. Maybe he can ride the Wing with Laughton and provide a more defensive line if you want to get Couturier more offensive starts and take some of the defensive stuff away.

Absolutely. Can't dispute any of that. But the whole "no Cups in (40) years" stuff is a silly exercise because even a Cup five years ago wouldn't matter to folks now any more than if they'd won in 1987 (as close as a team can get) or another year like 2004 when they absolutely had the players and coaching to do it but then got decimated by injuries at the worst possible time. - bmeltzer
Yeah, just listen to the Phillies fans who said if they won a Series they were good for decades. And here we are, even if when the team was still good they didn't win a second and were excoriated. |

Just looked (because I'm a tool) and Lithuania was annexed by the Soviet Union twice, both before and during WWII. So yes, it is a fomer Soviet state. |

Not me. I maintain that I am content with every member of the 2008 team (including Utley, Howard, Ruiz, Hamels) being the worst baseball players ever from 2009 onward. |

I hope so. The fact Morin was taken ahead of Morrissey and Pulock is worrisome. The Flyers were a team who had a ton of injuries on the backend this year, they were starving for D, and Morin didn't sniff the NHL. Which is ok, because from what I ascertain he's not close to being ready. Ton of guys from that 2013 draft have seen NHL time, and some drafted after Morin have seen NHL action. |

Even weirder, with respect to Zubrus, is that he never played in the CHL or in the higher Junior leagues in Europe when he was drafted.
So, while he was European trained, he played in North America in a Tier 2 Junior league.

Morin, despite being a project, almost made the team last year. And just because others have seen time doesn't mean they are/ will be better than Morin going forward. |

Would Flyers fans really feel better about the current state of the team if they had the hard-fought 2010 Finals turned out in their favor instead of Chicago's? Would there still be a "grace" period? No and no.
To me, things would be much more tolerable simply because the Flyers are one of a handful of teams with a nearly 40 year cup drought. That's an incredibly long time, and they don't appear to be ready to make a legitimate run any time soon, so if they had won it all several seasons ago, accepting the fact that they might not be a contender for several seasons to come (best case scenario) would be much easier to deal with as a fan.
Also, (frank) the tanking/relocating Penguins. Hope they get destroyed tonight. |

Maybe while they're sprucing up the site they can finally change LITR (as in a LITR of cola) to LTIR (as in Long Term Injured Reserve) on the Cap Central pages. |

How much did Morrissey and Pulock contribute at the NHL level?

That game they won felt like something the Pens likely won't be able to repeat.
Also, did anyone else see that hit Sid took from Carl Hagelin? That didn't look so great. |
