After McDavid and Eichel, you've got Strome, Barzal, Hanifin, Proporov, Rantanen, and Marner. 2 of those players will be available. Is losing your 2nd rounder worth picking one of them over the other? - jmatchett383
If Hextall really likes one, then yes.
We see them as close but maybe with all the scouting these guys do they might have some rated higher and others might have flaws they just don't like.

Will Dennis Yan have a better NHL career than Yann Denis? |

And if he does, that's fine. If he really thinks that Strome (for instance) is their guy and he's available at 4/5, then maybe you push for him. But personally, I don't think it's worth it. The 3-8 area (possibly further) seems to 1A/1B/1C/1D/etc. to me that I don't think one guy really stands out enough to move assets for. |

I still wouldn't do it. I just don't think that talent in the top 7 projected, outside of McD and Eichel, is a steep decrease in talent. Unless Hextall really, really wants Hanifin, I just don't see the sense in it, personally. - WarriorHockey21
Yeah I'm personally just getting too excited for Hanifin. Past McDavid and Eichel, he's my personal best player available. The way he reads and anticipates plays and always stays in control is really promising to watch. He's the kind of dman who's always one step ahead. |

Absolutely.. I just hope it's solid scouting and not this fly-by-the-seat-of-our-pants crap we've seen in the past where scouts say they're better, and they turn out average... then you lose your 2nd on top of it..
I mean, I trust Hextall to know what he's doing more than me... plus all of the inside info going around.. but I just hope he would have a full proof plan if he decides to do that.. |

Well, they "rescinded" Malkin's instigator in 2008, but they upheld Craig Adams' in 2012, so...yeah, who knows. - jmatchett383
Oh yea, Colin Campbell, whose son was conveniently traded to the Bruins from the Panthers the year they won the cup.
What did they call stuff like that, ( rescinding the suspension) when something was written in stone in advance and the ends justify the means- Manifest Destiny?

I'm not sure, the extra "n" could really be a big difference down the line. |

I really like him too... He's the one I would consider the move for, if it was me. |

I love that show.. it's one of the few that can always make me laugh because it's so ridiculous. Outside of season 5, of course..

And I am ok staying put if that is how they feel.
But if Hextall feels Strome is the next best to the top 2 I am ok moving an extra pick or trying to get him. I am ok with quality over quantity.

I can see the Devils trading down if Hanifin is available at 6. You think a team like CBJ or SJ would pony up a good offer.
My mock goes
mcDavid
Eichel
Strome
Hanifin
Marner
Bazal
Provorov

Absolutely. As the GM, it's his job to use his assets to attempt to assemble the best team he can. I, personally, don't feel that it's worth it based on the parity of the players, but he may feel differently. |

Well I like season 5
I just still find it crazy that they by chance named their spy agency ISIS at the start of the show. That's insanely bad luck. |

I would actually be pretty disappointed if we moved up for Strome. His skating is too much of a question to go that high, imo. |

I think we have seen Hextall move away from previous regime mistakes.
-The public stance not to trade youth for a one year shot
-Even though he fired berube, he is taking his time. How many times was a coach fired and someone was just promoted from inside.
-He's made two shrewd moves with the trades of Coburn and Kimmo.
-His acknowledgement that they need to clean up the cap a little to create space.
I like the stuff so far. I think he will do his due diligence on players. But I am ok if he feels strome could be the guy he wants to move up to get him.

Yep, agreed. The only thing I didn't like was the Hartnell trade.. Not that he traded him, but that he took Umberger back. I mean, even if they traded Hartnell for a late round pick straight up, it would have been better. I just don't understand that the best deal they could have gotten for him was taking Umberger back. There HAD to have been more interest with lesser consequences...
But I digress...
Overall though, I like where Hextall is going with the organization. |

The whole premise for all of that was because of real life ISIS, too. Terrorists affect all of us - JAKEw1234
Yeah, what sucky coincidence that they named the organization that when the terrorist org didn't really exist... then out of nowhere, they have to change the name.. |

Is there any huge 3-4 year project dmen projected to go in the first round?
Perhaps a Brandon Carlo. He will probably be higher on the Flyers draft board than Provorov.
Besides when is the last time the Flyers drafted a Russian in the first round? |

I think Thomas Chabot is that guy this year. He's only 6'2 right now, though. |
